Amazon Machine Learning Engineer - Automated Optical Inspection, Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, California

Description

The AWS Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer to develop optical defect detection ML models. You will build ML-driven solutions that enhance our quality assurance processes and accelerate our device manufacturing pipeline. You will work closely with other Software Development Engineers and Research Scientists from our fabrication team.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain platforms for developing, evaluating, and deploying machine learning models for real-world applications.

  • Quickly acquire knowledge of emerging technologies in Generative AI to solve complex problems in the data exploration domain.

  • Work directly with scientists and engineers to understand their data and propose frameworks for ingesting it to produce actionable metrics.

  • Implementation of design proposals in a logical and maintainable manner. Taking ownership over the stability and quality of the software stack by identifying, proposing, and implementing features that will accelerate our realization of quantum computing technologies.

We are looking for candidates with strong engineering principles, resourcefulness, a bias for action, superior problem-solving skills, and excellent communication skills. Candidates should also possess a genuine curiosity and readiness to grasp the domain knowledge of our research scientists. Working effectively within a team environment is essential. As a software engineer embedded in a research organization, you will have the opportunity to work on new ideas and contribute to the development of fault-tolerant quantum computers.

Example projects include:

  • Develop an optical defect detection & classification ML vision model

  • Establishing an active learning pipeline that improves model performance using human feedback

About the team

You will be joining the Device Lifecycle software development team within the AWS Center of Quantum Computing. Our team is comprised of software engineers who are building software that enables scaling up quantum computing technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience working in production ML environments, including deploying computer vision models into production environments.

  • Experience developing automation to solve problems at scale

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship experience in system design, including design patterns, reliability and scaling aspects

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in a STEM discipline

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.

  • Experience working with scientists in a research environment

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Cloudformation or AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK)

  • Experience deploying and maintaining Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) models with generative AI in a production environment

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
