Team & Job Overview
The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:
Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.
The EDOT (Enterprise Data Operations and Technology) group under DTS significantly impacts EDC’s business operations by ensuring the enterprise data ecosystem runs smoothly and efficiently, delivering reliable and timely data to the business and supporting strategic initiatives across the organization. Reporting to the Director, Data Architecture, the Senior Data Architect will work closely with business and technology teams across EDC to identify, recommend, and implement strategic solutions that mitigate key initiative technical risks, dependencies and architecturally significant decisions through agile design.

Key Responsibilities
Design and govern data technology frameworks to enable data management capabilities used to deliver high quality data solutions and underlying data & analytics platforms.
Works closely with other domain architects (i.e. integration, cloud, security, solution, etc.) and project delivery teams to drive alignment with the design decisions made and ensure consistency of implementations and minimize technical debt
Lead development and maintenance of data modelling activities throughout the data delivery and software development life cycle.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and evaluate the feasibility/relevance of data products and data solutions from a technological and organizational perspective.
Document and publishes architectural artifacts and mentor the delivery teams to incorporate them in their Agile delivery practices
Screening Criteria
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related degree.
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a senior/influencing role in Information Technology/Data Management (IT/DM)
Minimum of 7 years’ of broad experience in Information Technology/Data Management (IT/DM) solution design and delivery, including working knowledge with infrastructure, data management platforms, middleware and applications.
Minimum 7 years’ experience architecting data management solutions and platforms including but limited to: business intelligence, data migration, data integration, master/reference data management, data quality, data cataloguing and analytics.
Minimum 7 years’ experience in data modeling (dimensional, relational) and database design
Minimum 2 years’ experience with Event-Driven Architecture (EDA)
Assets
MBA or University degree in a related business field
Project Management Experience
Familiarity with Data Management Book of Knowledge (DMBoK)
Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
Experience in various data technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, ADLS, Power BI, Denodo, SQL Server/Oracle DBMS, Microsoft Purview, Erwin Data Modeler by Quest, Azure Event Hub/Grid, Spark, Azure Databricks, Cognos Analytics, SAS Viya, Azure Portal, Office 365
Relevant Azure certifications such as AZ-900, AZ-204, DP-203, DP-300, DP-900, AZ-305
Knowledge of Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) methods
Strong knowledge of DevOps, DataOps
Experience working with vendors in a managed-service environment.
Excellent communication skills (written, spoken, presentation)
Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)
Compensation Details
- Data Architect 18: Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,218 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive
Location
Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, or from the Community Hub in Toronto or Mississauga,
