ProMedica Health System Nurse Manager - Surgical Services - Full Time - Days in Oregon, Ohio

Provides leadership, direction, and guidance to the surgery department. Actively participates in the creation of an environment that fosters patient, family, physician, and employee satisfaction. Ensures decisions made are based on Family Centered Care philosophy.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise

  1. Assures the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of clinical care and practice to ensure safe, effective, quality, family centered patient care. Leads the development and implementation of strategies that address opportunities for improving patient outcomes in surgery. Facilitates appropriate methodologies and systems to ensure that patient care staff is competent to render care for all age populations.

  2. Effectively makes decisions to achieve desired outcomes. Addresses patient concerns in a timely manner, with appropriate follow up to ensure the concern does not reoccur. Demonstrates awareness of Customer Satisfaction evaluation tools and areas for growth. Is a positive role model/mentor for staff. Accepts responsibility for problems. Develops an environment for success through team participation. Remains positive with customers.

  3. Maintains and establishes departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives, departmental metrics, standards of care, environmental and infection control standards. At least annually, in accordance with hospital goals and objectives, sets goals and objectives for the Department of Surgery. Reports progress toward goals to the Director, Surgical Services.

  4. Manages fiscal responsibility and capital budgets with the Director, Surgical Services. Ensure monthly monitoring and management of budgets within defined parameters. Informs the director of any unexpected developments within the budget of the specified departments.

  5. Develops and evaluates clinical staff leadership. Oversees the selection, training, orientation and assigning of department staff; evaluates performance and initiate’s action. Ensures timely completion of performance appraisals process, coordinates staff development and discipline of personnel. Clearly shares with staff, expectations and provides feedback as needed.

  6. Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory process.

  7. Works closely with the Manager, Preop/PACU and assumes responsibilities for Surgery, Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing as needed per the Director, surgical services.

  8. Participates in actual care of a patient when the situation requires it. Cares for all age population. Serves as a role model for all direct reports and colleagues.

  9. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional associations to keep abreast of latest trends in the field of expertise. Maintains current knowledge of nursing and related health care information.

  10. Demonstrates accountability for the departmental QA program, by submitting monthly and quarterly reports according to established guidelines. Completes clinical rounds daily to assess the needs of patients, families, physicians, and staff.

  11. Actively supports the mission, vision, and philosophy of ProMedica Health System.

  12. Performs all other duties as assigned. Education: Bachelor’s degree; Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Years of Experience: Minimum of 5 years in surgical nursing, of which a minimum of 3 years was at the management level.

License: Must be an RN with a current licensure in the State of Ohio

Certification: BLS, ACLS, PALS

WORKING CONDITIONS

Personal Protective Equipment: Demonstrates knowledge and use of standard precautions and PPE. Demonstrates knowledge and use of safe patient handling equipment.

Physical Demands: Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, temperature changes, and exposure to blood borne pathogens and bodily fluids. Must be able to attain all health requirements as identified by the organization (i.e., PPD, respirator training, vaccines, as appropriate). Must be able to move about hospital and between workstations, and prolonged periods of standing. Must be able to frequently move, lift or carry light to heavy patients or equipment. Must be able to lift medium materials, non-material handling; continuous standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching; frequent pushing, pulling, and squatting. Occasional sitting, stairs, and kneeling.
