Workers will cultivate, cut, and transplant vegetable, flower, and herb seedlings and cuttings within a seedling line, as well as plant, spray, weed, and water plants using hand and gardening tools. Responsibilities include preparing soil and growth media, feeling plant leaves and noting coloring to detect insects or disease, and inspecting plants and bud ties to assess quality. Workers will operate tractors and machinery to fertilize, cultivate, and spray, and apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. Additional duties involve hauling and spreading fill-sand to maintain greenhouse floors using wheelbarrows or carts and shovels, tagging and assembling trays, pots, and caged pots, and pushing or pulling 100460 lb rolling carts. Workers will lay down and pick up seed flats for delivery or transplanting, load and unload racks, and transport plants from the greenhouse to the staging/loading area. They will also help unload plants that do not meet quality specifications. Other tasks include folding and stapling corrugated forms to make boxes for packing horticultural products, maintaining and repairing nursery buildings and greenhouses, and cleaning and sanitizing work areas, including greenhouses, warehouses, and landscaping. Nursery sanitation duties include picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms, and sweeping floors. Additional responsibilities may involve collecting, confirming, packing, and labeling plant orders to ensure accuracy. Workers must be able to perform tasks in a fast-paced assembly line while standing for long periods during peak season. Those with a valid drivers license and the necessary certifications may be asked to drive vehicles for transporting workers, goods, or commodities, though this task is voluntary. Workers who complete employer-paid safety certification may also assist in delivering, loading, and unloading products within a 180-mile radius from the work location. The employer may request, but not require, additional work beyond the stated hours, including on a workers Sabbath or federal holiday, and additional hours are voluntary. Workers must report to the designated work location on time each day, though schedules may vary based on weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. The employer will notify workers of any changes to start times. Occasional periods of little or no work may occur due to conditions beyond the employer\'s control, and workers may be assigned different tasks on different days as needed.
