Job Description:

Supervisor, Fleet Maintenance

Position Summary

This role is responsible to supervise the day-to-day maintenance department activities within assigned area(s) such as maintenance of material handling equipment, building/grounds maintenance, etc. Assigns work to maintenance associates and ensures productivity, safe work environment and efficient operations; and trains associates as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day-to-day facility and equipment maintenance department activities including, but not limited to the material handling equipment (MHE), buildings, grounds, water, refrigeration systems, fire systems and utility and/or distribution systems.  

  • Work with cross-functional departments as it relates to the distribution center operations and ensure prompt and timely resolution of any issues.  

  • Assist with developing the preventive maintenance programs of MHE and building and refrigeration systems and oversee the documentation of preventative and corrective maintenance records for related assets in the required software program(s); oversee the tracking and ordering for parts inventory.  

  • Ensure proper day-to-day scheduling of maintenance associates based on resources, volume, etc. to complete workload in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining productivity, accuracy, excellent customer service and safe work environment; plan and schedule activities to control costs on labor and supplies; and provide training to team on changes in processes and procedures.  

  • Ensure the health, safety, cleanliness and security of the work environment. This may include but is not limited to: Ensure compliance with distribution procedures and governmental regulations (i.e., safety, sanitation, etc.) and promote and reinforce safety and security awareness; Oversee and ensure the cleanliness of the work environment; Ensure proper maintenance of and report any issues related to equipment; and - Report and/or address any issues or work-related injuries and participate in any investigations as required.  

  • Conduct inspections to ensure all aspects of required government compliance related to safety and environmental laws (i.e., OSHA, EPA, Risk Management Plan Rule (RMP)/Clean Air Act, DOT Regulations, etc.) standards are achieved/maintained.  

  • May work with manager or distribution director on expansion or construction projects. 

  • Meet with manufacturer or vendor representatives to plan and gather quotes for projects and repairs as requested.  

  • Coordinate and lead pre-shift meetings and ensure timely communication with associates on various topics (i.e., distribution procedures, safety, human resources programs, etc.)  

  • Responsible for department management including staffing, training, performance management and career development of associates, and developing and monitoring department goals.  

  • May be responsible to assist with labor agreement administration, as necessary.  

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. 

Skill Requirements

  • High School Diploma (Required) or GED

  • Three years maintenance experience.

  • One year supervisory or lead experience preferred.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Good organization, prioritization, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Must be able to multi-task and have good follow through to meet deadlines.

  • Must have good leadership and training skills; ability to work with all levels of management and line associates.

  • Ability to work flexible hours based on business needs.

  • Proficient with computers to include MS Office (Excel and Word), and MHE and WMS (warehouse management system) software.

  • Knowledge of and experience with industrial equipment and building maintenance, and experience in complying with OSHA/EPA/RMP standards and requirements.

  • Familiarity with maintenance systems (i.e., ammonia detection monitoring, security and CCTV systems, diagnostic systems, etc.)

Must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds frequently during loading and unloading (average case weight of 18.7 pounds, 83% of cases are less than 30 pounds). Must be able to push and pull loaded pallets and carts weighing up to 2,700 pounds. The employee is required to sit up to eleven hours per day and climb in and out of tractor and trailer often. Overnight travel may be required. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is subject to a vehicle environment and is exposed to outside weather conditions frequently, including load/unload in extreme weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment us usually low to moderate, but is occasionally moderate to high.
