Description

We are searching for an experienced Staff Accountant to join our team in OKEMOS, Michigan. As part of our Service industry team, you will take on the crucial task of maintaining financial records, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with regulations. You will also contribute to financial reporting and work closely with different departments to ensure smooth financial processes.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure accurate updating and maintenance of financial records, along with general ledger entries.

• Utilize accounting software to record and track all financial transactions accurately.

• Reconcile transactions between management and schools, maintaining precise intercompany transaction records.

• Maintain comprehensive fixed asset records for multiple locations, coordinating closely with asset managers to integrate asset software records with financial systems.

• Uphold compliance with all federal and state regulations, along with school-specific requirements, while setting up new accounts.

• Generate regular monthly financial statements, including balance sheet and income statements.

• Provide assistance in the preparation of financial reports for audits and supply necessary documentation to auditors.

• Assist in the preparation of tax forms to be submitted to federal, state, and local government agencies.

• Collaborate with other departments and administrators to ensure smooth financial processes and operations.

• Work closely with department budget managers and assistants to ensure accurate end-of-year accruals, grants balancing, coding, tracking, and lease accounting.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Staff Accountant role or similar

• Proficient in Audit Prep, with ability to prepare and organize financial statements for auditing

• Proven track record of preparing accurate Financial Statements

• Solid understanding and hands-on experience with General Ledger management

• Ability to accurately record Journal Entries and Adjusting Journal Entries in the General Journal

• Experience in the Public Schools sector is desirable, but not mandatory

• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with ability to use advanced functions for financial tasks

• Strong attention to detail, with ability to spot numerical errors and ensure accuracy in all financial documents

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively in a team

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required
