IPG Photonics Corporation Senior Applications Engineer in Novi, Michigan
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Work with state-of-the-art laser processing equipment, as well as the latest in robotics and machine tool technology; Set up, program, and operate robotic & CNC laser welding / cutting/drilling equipment for customer application; Independently conduct and report on applications development and processing at IPG locations, customer locations, trade shows and conferences; Perform inspection of samples, including optical microscopy and metallographic cross sectioning, polishing for weld inspection then document test results in electronic reports; Maintain lab equipment; Support engineering development activities, sales support and customer applications development and support; Demonstrate laser system specifications for customer; utilize existing experience with CAD/CAM, CNC and robotic system programing. Up to 20% domestic travel required; Less than 5% remote work allowed and only as directed by the company; must live within normal commuting distance of Novi, MI. Salary: $75,000 - $85,000/year

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Controls Engineering or related field or foreign equivalent degree. 5 years of experience in the High-Power laser related field. Required Skills: Develop process parameters for laser welding, cutting, and surface treatment applications to determine the laser and optical configurations for customer projects (4 yrs); Program industrial robots like Fanuc, Kuka, and ABB brands and set up communication between robots and different automation devices (5 yrs); Program CNC machines and rotatory stages using G and M codes (5 yrs); Read and analyze electrical drawings and program different automation devices, like PLCs, microcontrollers, sensors, and HMIs, to control a laser system to perform specific tasks (2 yrs); Interact with customers and analyze the information provided to conduct laser applications to meet requirements and provide a professional report (2 yrs); Up to 20% domestic travel required; Less than 5% remote work allowed and only as directed by the company; must live within normal commuting distance of Novi, MI.
