Job Description

The DNA-encoded Library (DEL) platform group at AbbVie Headquarters in Lake County, Illinois, is seeking a highly talented and motivated scientist to enhance our in-house DEL data computational and analysis capabilities to support our drug discovery efforts in the Small Molecule Therapeutics and Platform Technologies (SMTPT) department. The individual will work collaboratively with cross-function software engineering, hardware support, and cheminformatics teams to leverage technical expertise to drive our DEL informatics pipeline. The successful candidate should possess strong communication and leadership skills and is expected to contribute to drug discovery projects across the therapeutic area portfolio of AbbVie interests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic leadership for developing infrastructure and workflows for DEL platform via working cross functionally with engineers, computational scientists and cheminformatics.

  • Responsible for enhancing DEL data integration processes, including DEL compounds management.

  • Drive developments of new computational tools and methodologies (e.g., machine learning models, data exploration and visualization) to strengthen our DEL data analysis platform. Serve as a key contributor to synergize computational efforts across teams designing and screening DNA-encoded libraries.

  • Accountable for developing and implementing cutting-edge computational tools and software applications through both internal and external collaborations.

  • Ensure optimal cross-functional relationships in a matrix environment within AbbVie SMTPT organization.

  • Provide DEL informatics expertise, updates on project status, and recommendations to our leadership.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related discipline with 6+ years industrial experience or master’s degree with 12+ years of experience in the Drug Discovery industry

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in design and implementation of engineering solutions applied to Drug Discovery projects required.

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of DEL technology.

  • Experience in data mining, database management, statistical analysis of large data sets

  • Expertise with scripting languages and machine learning methodologies is desirable.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to work in a team-oriented, matrix environment

  • Motivated, independent, creative, and productive problem solver with a proven ability to advance new scientific concepts.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. Salary: $117,500 - $223,500
