Responsibilities

  • Aircraft Mechanics I must have a combination of experience in repairing engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions. Makes repairs to aircraft and follows the direction of higher-graded workers. The Aircraft Mechanic I troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation and heating systems. This mechanic repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft components including engines, rotor heads, transmissions drive shafts, and gearboxes. This worker reads and interprets manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. Work involves replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, such as fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; removing engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembling, and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft. Job duties require that this mechanic adjusts, repairs, or replaces aircraft accessories, performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, and performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes. Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed, and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily, service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition, specialize in work, repair, and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and specialize in engine repair.

  • What You'll Do:

  • Power plant, Mechanical Flight Control Systems, Dynamic Components, Fuel and Air Systems, and related Sub-systems

  • Must be knowledgeable of technical directives, and NAMP programs, and shall be knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.

  • Aircraft Mechanic I shall have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.

  • Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.

  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.

  • Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.

  • Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs requirements in accordance with the procedures established in the PWS. Performs diagnosis and corrective actions, disassembles, inspects, evaluates, and accomplishes necessary repairs, and lays out work according to technical instructions and technical directives. Determines what repairs, modifications, and part replacements are required.

  • Performs aircraft maintenance functions of the Line, Corrosion Control, Tool Room, and Aircraft Organizational Level maintenance and flight-testing support.

  • Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support for assigned MH-60S aircraft.

  • Performs inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, surface finish removal, corrosion control, and preservation/de-preservation services.

  • Maintain aircraft and aeronautical equipment to continuously support the assigned SAR readiness posture outlined in the activities SAR Plan and daily flight schedule.

  • Aircraft maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means

  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, engines, auxiliary power units, and dynamic component systems.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurements, diagnostic equipment, and sets kits and outfits (SKO).

  • Read and interpret manufacturers' maintenance manuals, military technical manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, blueprints, manufacturers’ drawings, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

  • Flight Line operations/functions at detachment locations as required.

  • Confined space operations to include fuel cell entry.

  • Support Equipment (SE) operation and inspections

  • Aircraft launch and recovery

  • Aircraft movement

  • General aircraft maintenance

  • Maintain Aircraft, Engines, and SE Logbooks

  • Perform general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), and maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD-free environment.

  • Perform shift work and/or overtime as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Previously attended Aviation Machinist Mate (AD) “A” School or equivalent

  • Must be able to work 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Weekend shift as required.

  • Must be able to work flexible schedule as required.

  • Must be able to provide maintenance support for actual SAR missions within two hours of notification for weekends, holidays, and before/after normal services hours as required.

  • Shall be able to travel in support of detachment operations as required.

  • Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft.

  • Must be able to use hand and power tools.

  • Must have dexterity to handle small parts.

  • Must be eligible for a Common Access Card (CAC)

  • Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to become eligible for a Secret Security Clearance

  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data system.

  • Desired Qualifications:

  • Five or more years experience as Aviation Machinist Mate (AD)

  • Five or more years of rotary wing maintenance experience

  • Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) for Line, Corrosion Control and Power Plant

  • Automated Track and Balancing System (ATABS) Course (NATEC provides)

  • Previously certified in the Aircraft Confined Space Entry Program

  • Previously certified H-60 Plane Captain

  • Previously certified H-60 Landing Signal Enlisted (LSE)
