GE Vernova Technician - Electrical/Electronics in Niskayuna, New York

Job Description Summary

As a Technician - Electrical/Electronics for GE Vernova Advanced Research, you will work with and support engineers in executing various power electronics and electric machine related projects for GE Vernova applications. You need to be comfortable with designing and populating printed circuits, populating wiring enclosures, fabricating inductors, and designing fixtures for evaluation of electric machines. You will be expected to support the electrical and mechanical evaluation of power conversion systems, from mechanical alignment, configuration of cooling systems, to arranging and configuring instrumentation.

• Design and commission power and signal interface circuits and corresponding printed circuit boards for controllers and instrumentations applied in electric machines and power conversion systems

• Procure, fabricate, and assemble electrical and mechanical components, subsystems and complete system assembly of engineering prototypes for research programs

• Design fixtures, electrical and electronic subsystems, instrumentation, data acquisition, mechanical and thermal subsystems, that facilitate the evaluation of electrical systems intended for a wide variety of applications

• Determine experimental requirements for evaluating electric machine systems by studying system and customer requirements

• Develop and implement test procedures for electrical systems and document performance characteristics-

• Troubleshoot and solve electrical and mechanical problems unassisted where objectives are clearly defined but course of action must be considered and determined

• Be responsible for the maintenance of standard laboratory equipment and facilities including calibration of instruments and monitoring devices

• Perform all work in accordance with EHS guidelines and compliance policies

Job Description

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Associate degree in electrical engineering or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience, with a primary focus in technology applied to electric machines OR a High School Diploma with a minimum of 10 years of experience, with a primary focus in technology applied to electric machines

  • Experience in designing and commissioning of electrical/electronic circuits and printed circuit board (PCB) layout applied in electric machine drives and power conversion systems with considerations on signal fidelity, noise, EMI/EMS, and thermal management

  • Substantial experience in the design of test fixtures, including electrical, thermal, mechanical, and instrumentation technologies

  • Experience in designing electrical and electronic subsystems used within electric machine systems for a wide range of applications

  • Experience with the experimental evaluation of power electronics and electric machine systems

  • Documentation of test setup, major procedures, findings/results

  • Preliminary data processing skills and using MS Excel and writing reports in MS Word

  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

  • Must be 18 years or older.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Familiarity with DC grid concepts, including medium and high voltage DC power electronics systems. Familiarity with energy storage applications.

  • Experience with tools for PCB design like Altium. Familiarity on lab design and experiment tools like CREO, LabView etc.

  • Demonstrated successful track record of completing tasks and deliverables on schedule and on budget.

The salary range for this position is $1,292.00 - $1,650.00 USD, weekly. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. This position will remain posted until at least April 1, 2025.
