Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Facilities Management Division administers and supervises the maintenance of Department buildings, while implementing and supervising the use of capital funds allocated for facility management. The Facilities Management Division exercises management control over the Building Maintenance Section, Campus Management Section, and Custodial Services Section.

The Building Maintenance Section (BMS) plays a critical role in keeping Department Facilities operating safe for staff and visitors as it oversees the maintenance for over 250 Department Facilities Citywide. BMS manages multiple facilities renovations that support Department initiatives and unit relocations. BMS is comprised of uniform, civilian trades, professional and administrative staff.

Under general supervision, supervise workers performing common laboring work or assisting in routine maintenance and repair work. Examples of job duties include: supervises the hauling, loading and unloading of equipment, materials and furniture, excavating and refilling activities, mixing and placing of concrete, and other work of a heavy nature; supervises snow removal, brush cutting and other work in connection with the care of grounds; instructs workers in the use of tools and equipment; supervises workers performing routine maintenance and minor repair work; orders and arranges for the delivery of tools, supplies, materials and equipment to job locations; lays out work and instructs workers in methods to be used; enforces agency regulations regarding safe practices; and keeps records and prepares reports showing work performed, materials used, labor employed and time involved.

HOURS/SHIFT:

6:30 AM - 2:00 PM

Qualifications

  1. Four years of recent full-time satisfactory experience as a construction laborer or in the construction, maintenance or repair of sewers, streets, highways or water supply systems, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or

  2. A satisfactory equivalent.
