Job Description
THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $65,564.00.
The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.
ACS' Nicholas Scoppetta Children’s Center (NSCC) is a 24-hour shift-based operation providing services for New York City’s highly vulnerable population of abused and/or neglected children who have been removed from their parents/caregivers. On average, the Children’s Center serves approximately 2,500 unique children entering or re-entering the foster care system as they await transition to return home, stay with kin, or placement in longer-term foster care settings.
The Office of Pre-Placement Services within NSCC is responsible for providing safe and nurturing environment, for children and youth between the ages of 0-21 years of age. The Office of Pre-placement Services is a 24 hour a day 7-day program which is dedicated to ensuring that the children's social, emotional, medical, educational, and mental health needs are being met. The congregate Care Specialists responsible for overseeing children and youth placed in the Children’s Center, city congregate care facilities and related functional areas of ACS and for providing administrative support.
The Congregate Care Specialist Supervisor provides supervision and trains Childcare (CC) and Congregate Care Specialists (CCS) in the performance of their duties and responsibilities in the direct supervision of youths at congregate care facilities or non-secure detention facilities and ensures that they adhere to daily routines and schedules and regularly conduct inspections and contraband searches. The Congregate Care Specialist Supervisor works closely with Direct Care Staff, Intake Unit, Medical, Bellevue Mental Health Team, Child and Family Specialists and Office of Placement Administration to provide oversight to youth and staff in the daily operations of their pod. As a 24-hr operation, the Children’s Center requires Childcare Supervisors to provide oversight to 100 CCS across 3 main shifts.
The Supervisor of Direct Care will be responsible for performing the following duties but not limited to:
Ensure there is adequate childcare and youth coverage throughout the facility (residential units or program areas)
Ensure staff are provided with a care plan and updated information (medical/behavioral alerts, safety plans, special diets, etc.) for youth arriving at the Children’s Center
Maintain the physical safety of the facility by inspecting the premises and report of hazardous conditions to assure a safe and healthy environment
Maintain accurate headcount and complete required reports (Missing Person’s Reports, Children/Staff Census, etc.) in a timely manner
Conduct inspections and contraband searches
Verify supplies are on hand and approve supply requisitions
Plan, lead and supervise youth in group and individual activities
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Qualifications
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and either:
Two years of satisfactory experience working with children or youths in a congregate residential institution or non-secure detention facility; or
An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college, including 12 semester credits in psychology, sociology, social work, human services, criminal
justice, education, nursing or cultural anthropology.
