The American Express Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team is a strategic function that works to improve and protect the continued strength of the American Express brand through public relations, social media and content, colleague communications and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The Vice President of U.S. Consumer Services Communications at American Express is looking for a Manager Assistant to support her and her team. This individual will be the VP’s key partner in ensuring the team’s ability to achieve success both strategically and tactically. This manager will work closely with the VP, her leadership team, and key partners across Corporate Affairs and Communications (CA&C) to develop and execute communication strategies in support of the company and lead special projects.

The ideal candidate must be a responsible, professional, creative and flexible individual, who is a strong communicator and writer, is comfortable handling a wide range of tasks, and is able to work confidently under deadline pressure in a team setting. Having the ability to build strong relationships, manage and operate in a dynamic environment, be resourceful and great attention to detail is critical.

How will you make an impact in this role?

Executing the USCS Communications Team Strategy:

  • Support the VP with strategy development, drafting internal and external communications and presentation materials, research and reporting

  • Own key programs, processes, and tracking (e.g., budget oversight, operational excellence and compliance, measurement tracking, performance metrics)

  • Lead team’s engagement and development processes, including team building activities, talent assessments, and liaising with Colleague Strategic Partners (CSP)

  • Build both relationships and partnerships across the team and the enterprise

Communications, Process management and Engagement:

  • Assist VP in the review, drafting, and editing of communications to senior leadership and the company as a whole

  • Build clear, effective decks and content to support internal/external meetings and executive-level presentations

  • Monitor a central calendar of key milestones and activities across USCS Communications, including key internal and media moments and reporting dates/deadlines

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of relevant experience working in communications – either in-house or at an agency

  • Excellent written, PowerPoint and presentation skills

  • Proven track record to organize, plan and manage multiple priorities while working flexibly in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong attention to detail with emphasis on strong communication and writing, accuracy, quality, good governance, timeliness, and follow-through and operate with the appropriate sense of urgency in executing

  • Self-starter and motivated, proactive team player with strong initiative and sense of integrity to handle critical issues and maintain discretion

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and analytical experience with the ability to synthesize large amounts of data and draw key conclusions

  • Strong project management and organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, in particular PowerPoint and Excel and a demonstrated ability to learn new technologies systems as necessary

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience

Qualifications

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits
