Job Overview:
A Medical Assistant performs routine clinical and clerical tasks under the direction of a physician or other health practitioner.
RWJBH is seeking a Medical Assistant to work in the GYN Family Planning Clinic. This position is full-time.

Required:
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED required.
BLS required.
Computer Skills
Preferred:
- Previous CCT and/or medical assistant experience preferred
Essential Functions:
Accurately performs the following task according to Robert Wood Johnson policies and procedures and report results to a Registered Nurse immediately.
Vital Signs ( Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Respiratory Rate, Temperature and Pulse Oximetry).
Intake and Output
Blood Glucose
Height and Weight
Applies knowledge of growth and development and displays skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient and the population served on his or her assigned unit.
Communicates with all members of the health care team , patients and families:
Utilizing therapeutic communication skills with patient and family members.
Reporting data collected and observed to Registered Nurse immediately.
Observing patient confidentiality.
Demonstrate the ability to perform clerical functions required in the Outpatient Infusion unit in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policy and procedures by competently utilizing SCM computer system for order entry, report retrieval, as well as documenting and updating patient allergies, conditions, transport and diet.
Demonstrate the ability to accept and schedule appointments for patients, photocopy medical records per policy and maintain daily log and database of unit activity.
Follows Robert Wood Johnson University policies and procedures related to dress code, reporting to work on time, adhering to mandatory training requirements, attending the monthly staff meeting or Unit Clerk and CCT meetings, use of appropriate ID badge and patient confidentiality.
Maintain unit operations as designated and in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson policies and procedures including maintaining weekly and daily supplies and equipment, ensure unit is set up in advance for patient visits, and maintain unit manuals, bulletin boards, and patient education materials in an organized manner.
Conduct environmental rounds and report any unusual incidents to the appropriate department or Head Nurse.
Maintain a neat and orderly work environment. Assistance with ordering and distributing patient meals.
Perform functions related to maintenance of the Medical Records on the unit including the following functions: assembling and preparing for admission charts, retrieving charts from Health Information Systems, filing all patient report into the medical records and maintaining the medical records on the unit.
Provide all patients with identification and allergy bracelets as delegated by the RN.
Performs the following administrative functions for the outpatient unit in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Policy and Procedures: answering the telephone within 4 rings, and in a professional manner, coordinate patient s admissions, transfers and discharges with other departments and carries out the principles of positive guest relations
Also responsible for all other tasks as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
Safely and accurately obtain blood, urine and stool specimen according to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures
Performed the following task accurately and safely as assigned by a Registered Nurse:
EKGs
Maintenance of oxygen equipment.
Suction set up.
Participate in the maintenance of unit equipment and environment:
Setting up for unit specific procedure.
Performing routine quality assurance checks on point of care testing equipment.
Cleaning of unit based equipment.
