The Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) is looking for a Security Assurance Engineer to join our AI Safety & Security team. In this role, you will build and lead Microsoft’s end-to-end response process for AI-related security vulnerabilities and safety harms reported to MSRC. This is part program management, part security engineer, and always an advocate for customers and the company. You will expand on your curiosity to understand rapidly evolving billion-dollar services to work across the company and help protect customers, Microsoft, and communities from threats to security, safety, and privacy. This role has anticipated exposure to illegal, offensive, sensitive, or mature materials on a regular basis, of various mediums inclusive of but not limited to text, audio, video, or images.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Microsoft’s AI Security and Safety response process in partnership with stakeholders across the company. 

  • Analyze security & safety issues to determine their root cause, harm category and impact. This includes setting up complex environments and assisting with recommended mitigations.

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to represent Microsoft with external individuals and organizations reporting AI security vulnerabilities and safety issues.

  • Develop, monitor, and analyze key performance data to identify and recommend process improvements and automation.

  • Exercise and grow subject matter expertise in AI safety and security and security operation processes.

  • Demonstrates a strong technical curiosity and passion for technology and artificial intelligence, continuously seeking to learn and apply new AI technologies and methodologies.

Qualifications

Required Qualications:

  • ​​Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Risk Management, Cyber Security, or related field​

  • ​​OR 1+ year(s) experience in software development lifecycle, large scale computing, modeling, cyber security, anomaly detection​

  • ​​OR equivalent experience​

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior knowledge or experience collaborating with the security vulnerability research community.

  • Prior knowledge or experience investigating security vulnerabilities and exploits.

  • Professional security vulnerability case management, triage, and communication or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL).

  • In-depth knowledge or strong demonstrated capacity to learn product and service security concepts.

  • Ability to distill and explain complex technical and security concepts to different types of audiences. 

Security Assurance IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $81,900 - $160,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,600 - $174,600 per year.
