Commerce + Ecosystems (C+E) is responsible for enabling and optimizing the end-to-end customer journey on the Microsoft Cloud. C+E’s Ecosystems team helps our current and future customers discover and engage with AI capabilities on the Microsoft Cloud. Serving audiences from students to developers to startup founders, we share a common goal to help these audiences develop the most innovative solutions built on the Microsoft platform. Within this organization, the Skilling team operates learn.microsoft.com, providing a central platform for individuals to learn, grow, and adopt Microsoft technology. Through this platform, users can access technical documentation, training, Q&A, architectural guidance, and code samples.

Microsoft Learn is looking for a Principal Communications Program Manager to develop and implement a standardized internal communication framework that will apply across multiple teams and disciplines, including product, data science, and program management. The goal is to establish a framework that ensures consistent and effective communication across all departments, fostering a culture of transparency and collaboration.

Responsibilities

Thought Leadership :

  • Uses business knowledge and technical expertise to develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with organizational objectives and values.

  • Drives collaboration and adoption of the communication framework across teams using deep knowledge of industry trends, methodologies, technologies, and advances.

  • Educates and influences by sharing knowledge, best practices, and insights with the broader organization.

Internal Partner Engagement :

  • Influences and transforms the relationship of partner engagements to equip and enable them with relevant information.

  • This includes understanding their communication needs and integrating them into a standardized communication framework that defines channels, mechanisms, and protocols for various types of communication within the organization.

  • Collaborates with various departments to understand their communication needs and integrate them into the established framework.

Project/Program Management :

  • Drives communication of program status and performance (e.g., executive reviews) to cross-functional and/or cross-organizational teams.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional and/or cross-organizational stakeholders (e.g., Engineering, Product, Design) to enhance communications.

  • Develops collateral materials (e.g., decks, posts, talking points) for use in specific communications initiatives and events.

  • Works closely with content creators to ensure that the messaging aligns with the established framework and organizational goals.

  • Owns the organization editorial calendar that tracks all communications and other mechanisms within the framework, which may include blog posts consolidating information, regular newsletters, powerpoint decks as passdown artifacts for managers team meetings, program review meetings, and running a cross-functional project team that plans and executes a twice-a-year internal partner summit.

Driving Business Impact and Continuous Improvement :

  • Finds opportunities to scale and consolidate tools, processes, and methods across the business, and removes barriers to ensure implementation.

  • Regularly assesses the effectiveness of the communication framework, gathers feedback, and makes necessary adjustments to enhance overall communication efficiency.

  • Explores and integrates communication technologies that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of organizational communication.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience in internal communications, program management, digital content publishing and management, or experience in a writing or editing role

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 9+ years experience in program management, content publishing/management,

  • OR experience in a writing

  • OR editing role

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 7+ years recent experience with digital publishing modalities (e.g., Web, social media, in-product, training, online ads) .

  • 3+ years experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.

Content Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
