Microsoft Corporation Security Researcher - Azure Networking in Multiple Locations, Israel

The team in Israel is specializing in security, developing services that protect the Azure platform, and the users and apps running on top of it.

We are expanding our offensive research team. The team is focused on making sure our services are built with a security-first mindset by proactively looking for breaches and vulnerabilities across Azure’s architecture and services, to make sure Azure is safe, secure, and reliable. 

The Azure Networking Security Research team is responsible for improving the security posture of Azure 1st party services and architecture, spanning across Host, WAN, SDN (software-defined networks) and network services, used by billions of customers in homes, businesses, and across Azure. This team performs security design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on offensive research/operations on key networking services to make sure they meet the highest security standards possible. 

  

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll work alongside Product Managers and Engineers, as well as other researchers, to investigate and monitor key strategic threats against the Azure platform and identify actionable ways to detect and mitigate these threats. You’ll tackle complex security problems and guide the rest of the team in their efforts, helping to formulate approaches for solving challenging problems and discovering new opportunities. You’ll have the opportunity to partner with teams across Microsoft Azure to prioritize and drive impactful work in the security domain and drive excellence through execution and delivery.

In other words, you will: 

  • Help the team make data-driven security decisions using data analytics to improve Azure’s security posture.

  • Provide insights into monitoring and detection data, including signal-to-noise ratios, efficacy rates, and detection patterns that help PMs and engineering to translate data into security rules and policy.

  • Structure large, complex data sets to find usable information, solve difficulties, and analyze problems with advanced analytical or statistical methods

  • Create and document detection algorithms, investigation playbooks, processes related to data exploration.

  • Simplify the complex by generating reports and visualizations that identify trends/patterns/predictions/gaps, evaluate the efficacy of monitoring and detections, and inform improvements in security coverage and operations

  • Identify security vulnerabilities in a wide variety of key networking services, protocols, and architecture, all comprising the Azure network. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.

  • 2+ years of experience using Kusto/Splunk/SQL, syslog, and data analytics tools: Python, Excel, Power BI

  • 2+ years in one or more of the following areas:

  • Hands-on experience in security research with offensive mindset. 

  • In-depth understanding of cloud/OS/network attacks, threat modelling complex systems, vulnerability discovery

  • Development, experience with multiple different languages including Python

*Preferred Qualifications: *

  • Familiar with Red Team techniques.

  • Network detection ruling like: Snort, WAF, IDS/IPS, YARA etc.

  • Familiarity with security research on cloud environments.

  • System design knowledge.

  • Team player with cross-group collaboration skills and communication skills
