Google System Power Engineer, Pixel in Mountain View, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 2 years of experience in system-level power, hardware/software optimizations, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience analyzing mobile phone workloads in multimedia processing, camera pipeline, render and display processing, and cellular modem/WiFi processing.

  • Experience with basic hardware rework, identifying and removing/replacing components on a PCB, and instrumentation (e.g., DAQs, oscilloscopes).

  • Experience with programming or scripting, as well as Android/iOS app development.

  • Experience with power/performance benchmarking or mobile competitive analysis.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users.

The Pixel Power team is responsible for all aspects of power for Pixel devices, from concept to volume production to post deployment, and for delivering excellent battery life for our users.

As a Systems Power Engineer, you will drive power deliverables across the entire product life cycle, including setting power goals, performing power estimates, implementing power optimizations, performing power measurements and debugging battery drain issues. You will collaborate with engineers from all across Google to design and execute on goals for the next generation of Pixel phones.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$178,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Work with cross-functional Hardware, Software, and Systems teams to perform power/performance trade-off analysis and optimizations for a wide variety of use-cases.

  • Define, develop, or utilize tools and methods for detailed power measurements and analysis including hardware modification, system profiling/tracing, or writing custom test scripts or applications.

  • Power and performance benchmarking of hardware (e.g., SoC, CPU, GPU, PMICs, and more), software (e.g., firmware, kernel, Android/iOS, and more), and applications (e.g., multimedia, generative AI, and more) across internal and external platforms.

  • Propose and drive implementation of innovative power optimization features across hardware and software.
