Google Android System Software Engineer, Project Starline in Mountain View, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C++), and with data structures/algorithms.

  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

  • 3 years of experience with cameras.

  • 3 years of experience with Linux Kernel.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.

  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.

  • Experience in development, testing and deployment of Android Board Support Packages (BSP), Linux device drivers or Linux kernel modules.

  • Experience in performance analysis and optimization in the domain of embedded systems.

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: SoC, hardware bring-up, power management, ARM processors, bootloaders, or hardware/software integration.

Project Starline is a technology project that combines advances in hardware and software to enable friends, families and co-workers to feel together. In this role, you will be responsible for all camera-related software, including applications, Android/Linux OS, on-device computing using TPU/GPU/DSP, firmware, etc.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $161,000-$239,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Design, implement and deliver critical features that relate to various low-level software stacks, including camera, encoder, TPU and USB.

  • Propose designs for new components relying on OS features, and give feedback on design documents and code.

  • Develop and debug across all levels of Android OS software stack.

  • Contribute to engineering efforts that develop experiments, tools and test infrastructure needed to tune image quality, performance and stability of our smart cameras.

  • Collaborate with hardware, product/program management, and other internal teams across various Product Areas to develop roadmaps, drive alignment and work towards common goals.
