Knox Community Hospital Chief Medical Officer in Mount Vernon, Ohio

JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for providing leadership, direction and coordination of divisional operations in a manner consistent with organizational mission and objectives.  The incumbent functions as the senior medical officer of the hospital and serves to facilitate communication among Hospital Administration, Medical Staff, and the Board of Trustees.  In addition, the Chief Medical Officer advises Hospital Administration on medical matters.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledgeable in responsibilities delegated by the Board of Trustees to medical staff leadership including credentialing, privileging, peer review, and medical staff governance activities. Must be familiar with, and assist in compliance with, requirements of government and healthcare regulatory bodies. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the leaders and members of Knox Community Hospital's Medical Staff, Administration, Management Staff, and general public. Excellent human relations, conflict resolution, and oral/written communication skills.  Positive demeanor in one's approach to dealing with people, problems, and opportunities with continual focus on achieving organizational goals and objectives.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates and oversees activities of the hospital medical staff.

Maximizes effective and efficient communication between the hospital and medical staff.

Recommends changes and/or interprets and communicates medical staff bylaws, objectives, and operational procedures.

Responsible for assuring Medical Staff compliance with Hospital governing documents, Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations and requirements of regulatory agencies.

Intervenes to address/resolve medical staff issues and conflicts.

Works to develop constructive medical staff relationships between and among physicians, as well as hospital administration, management, staff and Board of Trustees.

Serves as a member of the hospital Administrative Team on strategic and operational issues.

Provides direct support to  medical staff leadership and serves on the following committees (and others as assigned):

  • Medical Staff Executive Committee
  • Clinical Peer Review Committee
  • Behavioral Peer Review Committee
  • Quality and Performance Review
  • Credentialing
  • Bylaws
  • Pharmacy and Therapeutics
  • Case Management/Utilization Review
  • Various Medical Staff Departments
  • Ad-Hoc Medical Staff Task Forces/Committees

Works with Medical Staff Leadership to enhance cohesion with organizational goals.

Develops, implements, and promotes a program of continuous performance improvement in achieving success in organizational strategic initiatives.

Takes a leadership role in preparation of the hospital and medical staff for accreditation surveys such as JCAHO to ensure compliance with standards.

Supports and promotes hospital strategic and operational goals and objectives to the Medical Staff, hospital staff and community.

Collaborates with Administrative Team on  development and periodic updating of the Medical Staff Development/Recruitment Plan to best address community need for service.

Collaborates on hospital physician/medical staff recruitment activities in compliance with regulatory bodies.

Works to promote excellent clinical outcomes, improved customer satisfaction and optimal utilization of human and organizational resources.

Demonstrates integrity in interactions with people at all levels of the organization and community.
