Description and Requirements

Job Responsibilities :

  • Manage a global patent portfolio for the PC business including harvest and identify patentable innovations, support patentability evaluation in Patent Review Board (Lenovo internal team) for determining beneficial patents to be filed, manage OC to draft and file patent applications including prosecution, reexamination, invalidation and other patent related professional work in the lifecycle.

  • Support, as appropriate, patent licensing opportunities, litigations, and complex business transactions with patent portfolio analysis, due diligence, infringement and invalidity analysis, and claim charting and testing.

  • Communicate effectively with business client on patent filing plan, IP strategy, and IP awareness and education.

  • Manage budget for patent filings and prosecutions.

  • Provide inventor training and education.

  • Manage relationships and communications with outside counsel and vendors.

Basic Requirements:

  • 8+ years’ experience in-house or law firm with strong patent portfolio strategy and development experience or 10+ years experience in IT related business

  • Experience in managing global patent portfolio of at least 5+ years, preferably in patent department of a global technology company or an international patent law firm, including brainstorming, harvesting, filing, prosecution, pruning.

  • Bachelor’s degree in science and technology, preferably majoring in Electronics, Computer or Communication

  • USPTO Patent Bar required

  • In-depth understanding of US patent law, filing and prosecution strategies and preferable to have knowledge of global patent laws including EPO, WIPO, and CN.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal; additional language skills preferred (Mandarin, Japanese).

  • Strong technical skills to partner with business leadership and Patent Review Boards to support PCs and Smart technology.

  • Fulfill independently tasks of high complexity in patent related matters for the business clients.

  • In-depth understanding of technology of PC business clients (both hardware and software knowledge and expertise at a system or application level).

  • Strategic thinker with a broad perspective, and an analytical thinker with enough creativity to synthesize new solutions to old problems.

Travel Requirements:

  • 10%

The base salary budgeted range for this position is $150K - $170K. Individuals may also be considered for bonus and/or commission.
