WSP USA Junior Process Engineer in Mississauga, Ontario

The Opportunity

Due to the expanding operations, the Process and Mine Infrastructure Design Group at is currently recruiting for a Junior Process Engineer to join our growing team of designers, scientists and engineers in our Sudbury and Mississauga, Ontario locations.

The Process and Mine Infrastructure Design group provides specialized services in the field of paste backfill and surface dewatered tailings disposal, as well as other mine backfill technologies such as hydraulic, rock and aggregate fills. The paste disposal field is an ever emerging specialist niche, and WSP is currently the world leader in the provision of these types of services to premier mining and waste mineral disposal clients. The use of paste technology has also expanded into non-traditional areas, such as mine remediation, environmental remediation and the treatment of coal ash. WSP is at the forefront of advancing these services areas.

Our team has expanded capabilities in underground mine infrastructure design, for example, ore handling systems, mine dewatering, shaft design and fuel and lube facilities. As a result, our consultants are in demand throughout the world and WSP can offer a very interesting and stimulating work environment for a junior engineer who will be surrounded by leaders in the field

What you can expect to do here:

  • Work on projects from conceptual level studies to detailed engineering; field work may include mobile plant backfilling operations, fixed plant commissioning and operations.

  • Assist with laboratory or field testing and data interpretation.

  • Support engineering functions such as:

  • development of process flow diagrams;

  • process design criteria;

  • mass, water, and energy balances;

  • piping and instrumentation diagram;

  • equipment specifications;

  • capital and operating cost estimates;

  • Support the preparation of proposals, presentations and reports.

  • Prepare client presentations and actively participate in client meetings.

  • Liaise with vendors, clients, and other WSP teams globally; and

  • Work in a team-based engineering environment on open pit, and underground mining projects.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Mining or Metallurgical Engineering;

  • Academic qualifications which give the candidate eligibility for registration as a professional engineer;

  • Ability to travel (domestically and internationally), including projects that may require 2 to 4 week field rotations in remote locations ;

  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and passport ;

  • Experience with industry-standard software packages such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Microstation, Metsim would be an asset;

  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills;

  • Critical thinking skills;

  • Microsoft Office and general computer usage;

  • Strong organizational skills; and

  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
