Business Development Lead, Ophthalmology - Inflammation Business Unit

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will be responsible for establishing the Biosimilar Ophthalmology franchise for Amgen Canada. The Business Development Lead, Ophthalmology is charged with building the strategic plan, launch footprint, executional plan and hiring, training and coaching the field force for product launch.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Global team to ensure launch readiness and maximal global support for upcoming launch

  • Lead the patient based forecasting process with Finance to ensure comprehensive market understanding and accurate provincial level forecasts to inform necessary partners

  • Develop and refine on an ongoing basis the P&L to ensure optimal profitability

  • Build out patient journey map from Advisory Boards, Market Research, CI and vendor discussions

  • Work with Director of Medical to establish field alignments

  • Evaluate product market opportunity and establish footprint for field engagement

  • Work with internal Ophthalmology strategy owners to develop strategic alliances for launch

  • Work with Patient Support Program (PSP) Function, Pharmacy Director, to engage key PSP partner vendors, establish contracting methodologies

  • Collaboration with Sourcing Function on various applicable launch and post launch activities

  • Collaboration with Legal Function to discuss file progress and readiness for launch

  • Build comprehensive strategic plan with KPIs and present during forecasting process

  • Hire competency-based field force for successful footprint structure

  • Work with Supply and Regulatory to ensure market readiness as soon after NOC as possible

  • Work with Business Analytics Function to develop ongoing market research initiatives, establish KPIs to measure performance, review and purchase key data and build out field force incentive program

  • Work with VA&P Pricing and Contracting, PI, Pharmacy to develop P&L based rebate structure, engage pCPA, private payers and pharmacy channels for successful access and fulfilment

  • Work with L&P to build comprehensive disease state and field readiness plan for newly hired sales force

  • Coach and develop field force for optimal performance

  • Build and executive successful launch meeting and launch

  • Monitor brand performance and develop/present Business Review decks to GM

Key Job Functions:

  • Growing Amgen Canada’s revenues in the Inflammation market

  • Developing and implementing Ophthalmology (Inflammation) marketing and sales strategies across macular degeneration indication

  • Partnering with the Value and Access team to ensure products have appropriate provincial formulary access, coverage, and reimbursement

  • Developing, managing, and reporting Ophthalmology (Inflammation) tactical budgets

  • Leading, retaining, recruiting and developing the Ophthalmology (Inflammation) sales teams

  • Collaborating with Regional and Global leadership to ensure the Ophthalmology (Inflammation) business unit receives appropriate resources and tools to function and grow

  • Lead competency-based selection, goal-setting & development activities, and coaching team members, in order to build a culture of dedication, inspiring team members and instilling cross-functional collaboration, and commitment to Amgen’s mission of serving Patients.

  • Develop team competencies in strategic account engagement and analysis in the development of robust customer centric account plans and business cases and engaging both internal and external customers in their development and deployment.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree

AND

6+ years of Commercial Biopharmaceutical experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Top-notch strategic planning, P&L/financial and matrix management skills. Co-promotion/business development job experience a plus.

  • Rare Disease experience

  • 8+ years of experience and a track record of success in a series of roles of growing scope, scale and complexity, with leading companies in the biopharmaceutical industry.

  • An outstanding marketer with experience developing and implementing innovative marketing and commercial strategies for pipeline products, successfully launching therapeutic products and repositioning products to increase commercial value. Prior experience launching multiple products in diverse therapeutic areas is highly desirable.

  • In-depth therapeutic area expertise

  • Prior experience in a tactical, “line” marketing role, implementing marketing strategies in local markets, is a plus but not a requirement.

  • Understanding of market access, pricing, and reimbursement issues.

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix environment, managing global projects involving multiple functions and shared accountabilities.

  • Commercial Savvy- Outstanding commercial acuity and instincts; superior strategic marketing skills. A strong command of classic and innovative marketing disciplines and techniques. A detailed understanding of the external environment, internal capabilities, competitors and the interests of other stakeholders. Develops and applies standard processes.

  • Strategic Approach - Demonstrated creativity in addressing strategic challenges; displays high intellectual curiosity and passion for learning; thinks out-of-the-box; asks the right questions; seeks expert opinions and insights; applies innovative ideas and takes measured risks.   • Financial Competence – understands all aspects of a P&L and can effectively forecast/plan across multiple interconnected products/markets

  • Collaboration Skills - Works effectively in a team-based & co-promotion organization, collaborates cross functionally, builds alignment around key objectives and exercises influence at all levels. Readily builds consensus and achieves agreement on key priorities. Conducts effective meetings. Excellent listener; seeks broad input and feedback; employs frequent and effective follow-up.
