Key Job Responsibilities Sets up and operates a table type CNC Horizontal Boring & Milling Machine (Kuraki) with automatic tool changers, performing all machining operationson this machine tool. Receives work assignment; secures drawing and process sheet if required; determines sequence of operations; type of set up and machining requirements such as speeds, feeds, dimensions, tolerances, etc. Determines necessary attachments, tools or fixtures; obtains and returns tools, fixtures, etc. as required. Downloads program automatically obtains feeds, speeds and sequence of operations. Occasionally operates machine under keyboard control or manually when necessary. Inserts tools in changer locations as specified in program. Places piece on machine table manually or hitches and moves with aid of floor operated overhead crane or hoist; clamps piece to table using appropriate holding fixtures and devices. Sets up piece making close measurements at multiple locations to level and align work on table. Set up may be of difficult nature due to irregular shape of part. Presets own tools. Uses probe to gather data; analyze data, then act on results. Determines tool length, qualify size, location and depth, and adjust parts reference. When an error is found in program, corrects program and notifies programmer. May make own program when required. Inserts tools in changer locations as specified in program. Selects proper cutting tools for operation and secures to bar or spindle; may feed tool manually into piece; observes operations closely, checks dimensions, and adjusts as needed. Removes pieces from machine, stamps as required, remove burrs, cleans out chips and coolant and set aside. Performs very close tolerance machining operations such as drilling, boring, reaming, facing, milling, cat head turning, etc. on various parts.
