The Dow Chemical Company has an excitingpart-timecooperative education job opportunity available in Midland, MI. This position is open to qualified and highly-committed college students enrolled in a fully accredited college or university located very close to the Midland Dow site. Unlike a short-term internship project outside of school terms, this particular role is a long-term, year-round,undergraduatestudent position --at leastone full year in duration --whilethe student is simultaneously taking classes toward an undergraduate degree.

Thisimmediate-needopportunity offers the student valuable professional work experience in a dynamic, multi-national corporation interfacing with colleagues and leaders in many different roles. This program is designed for academically successful students who meet ALL of the specific jobandco-op program requirements listed below and who cansimultaneouslysucceed both in school and in a professional work environment.

JOB PURPOSE

This position exists to support studies needed in support of Toxicology and Environmental Fate studies of Dow products. The Co-op will be involved in preparing test articles for studies and processing samples through final analytical evaluation. The Co-op will also have responsibility for maintaining consumable supplies and general housekeeping for laboratories.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Checking and maintaining consumable supplies (lab supplies, solvents, glassware)

  • Logging in samples and reference materials

  • Preparing samples for analysis (cutting, weighing, measuring)

  • Processing samples using straightforward to complex sample work ups

  • Setting up and running samples on GC, HPLC, TOC, ICP and Mass Spectrometer systems

  • Processing data for result summaries

  • Co-op will be working primarily with chemists and environmental scientists who will take the time to properly train and supervise the individual

REQUIRED & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be majoring in a science field and have an interest in analytical or environmental chemistry (chemistry, biochemistry, environmental sciences )

  • Must have completed at least one year of college chemistry and mathematics

  • Must have a basic understanding of spreadsheets and word processing software (preferably MS Office Suite)

  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to appropriately document laboratory procedures

  • Must have a good work ethic, be reliable (on time), and be enthusiastic about learning new skills and contributing to the team.

  • Must have the ability to listen and follow directions, both verbal and written, and ask for further clarification, if necessary, before proceeding.

CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE LOCAL STUDENT CO-OP PROGRAM

  • High school diploma/GED andalreadyenrolled at an accredited college or university located close to the Midland Dow site, pursuing anundergraduatedegree.

  • Successfullycompletea minimum of 6 credit hours per term during both the Fall and Winter terms(Sept-Apr).

  • Seeking high performing student with strong GPAs of 3.000+ is preferred

  • Able to begin work very soon, usually within 3 weeks of the job offer, and work year-roundat least16 hours each week ONLY during our regular business hours(8am-5pm, Mon-Fri…max 8 hours/day and 30/week during school).

  • Commit to the role forat least1 full calendar year (BEFORE completing classes for your stated undergraduate degree or BEFORE transferring out of the area). Students availablelonger than one yearbefore completing their degree program are preferred and advantaged.

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality in commuting to workdaily or at least2days a week; therefore, dependable transportation, dedication and time management skills are absolutely required.

  • Registered/enrolled in their school's Cooperative Education Program before the first day at Dow and comply with the school’s policies/requirements, in addition to Dow's, for the duration of co-op employment.

  • Any current Dow college co-ops wishing to transfer into this role must have been in their current roleat leastone full year, must haveat leastone full year left before graduating or transferring out of the area, and must have supervisor approval before applying toeachDow co-op job posting.
