City of Mercer Island Recreation Attendant in Mercer Island, Washington

Performs routine clerical activities providing fundamental support for the daily and special activities for the City of Mercer Island's Recreation Division. Work involves facility set-up and breakdown for indoor and outdoor programs, activities, and events, and interacting frequently and professionally with internal and external individuals and groups.

Work is performed under general supervision with limited latitude in the use of initiative. Position exercises some judgment in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques.

Essential Job Functions

  • Cleans and organizes facilities and equipment used in all indoor and outdoor recreation spaces and locations; reports all custodial service needs per established policies and procedures
  • Opens and closes recreation facilities as scheduled; prepares recreation spaces and locations for programs, activities, and events by setting up, breaking down, and cleaning equipment and furniture
  • Maintains supplies and equipment and reports inventory and equipment issues to assigned supervisor
  • Ensures proper and orderly use of facilities by customers
  • Assists and interacts with guests, volunteers, and staff; reports hazards, accidents, and incidents to appropriate staff member, and responds to medical emergencies and incidents per established protocols and guidelines
  • Gathers and organizes data and information for programs, activities, and events, including but not limited to, participant and emergency contact information, activity resources, registration lists, and attendance
  • Supports customer service desk activities, performing data entry and receptionist duties, as requested
  • Assists with preparations for offsite Division-affiliated activities and events and assigned special projects
  • Works evening and weekend hours based on schedule/organizational requirements
  • Responds to inquiries, questions, and comments from the general public per established standards and protocols
  • Ensures adherence to all established City policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Attends evening and/or weekend meetings and events based on organizational responsibilities and/or requirements
  • When required by management, responds to Emergency Operations Center to support the City's response during an emergency

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities

     

Qualification Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by some previous directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

  • Valid WA State Driver's License with a driving record free from frequent or serious violations. A three (3) year driving record abstract must be submitted prior to hire
  • CPR and First Aid certification within first year of employment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures

Skill in using mathematics required for the work

Ability to learn to use Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department / organization specific software

Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing

Ability to follow oral and written instructions
