Commander, Navy Installations FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST in Mayport, Florida

Responsibilities You will conduct highly specialized inspections ranging from very difficult to often controversial areas. You will Advise building officials on corrective action needed for code violations. You will Instruct training classes, lectures, and demonstrations on fire protection and prevention. You will research technical manuals, fire codes, and trade references to reduce or eliminate fire hazards or conditions. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Inspects building and facilities to identify fire hazards and implement corrective actions; 2) Identifies hazardous conditions or practices, evaluates degree of hazard involved, and determines appropriate action to be taken; 3) Develops and conducts training course on fire safety practices and procedures (i.e. fixed and portable fire protection equipment, station fire prevention regulations, special hazardous operations/conditions, home and/ or work practices, etc.) for military and civilian employees, contractors, and dependents; 4) Provides guidance to supervisors, employees, and the general populace on fire safety and fire protection. Education Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Physical Demands: Work requires considerable walking, climbing, bending, lifting, and working in various weather conditions. A portion of duties will be performed under simulated emergency situations for training purposes or under actual emergency situations in the event the incumber is acting in an operational capacity. Work Environment: May be exposed to out-of-control fires, HAZMAT spills, or possible explosions. May suffer burns, dehydrations, and other effects of heat: smoke inhalation, heavy protective clothing, falling materials, or explosions. Subject to physical injury and sensory damage from firefighting activities, exposure to HAZMAT, and high-level noise levels. May deal with victims in emergency situations that may be in varying stages of fright, panic, injury, and shock. Several vacancies may be filled.
