Scope of work
This role works within the surgical services and operating room of Ludington Hospital. Maintains responsibility for preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions during the surgical procedures, making appropriateresponses as needed.
Provides sterile instruments and supplies during the surgical procedure.
Performs surgical sponge, needle and instrument counts.
Prepares case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments and medications/solutions for each surgical case.
Assists in positioning patients for surgical procedures and maintains a protective position throughout the case.
Creates and maintains a sterile and safe environment.
Takes an active role in preference card building and management through communication with surgeons and EMIs
Suggests instrument set changes to EMI and works with SPD identifying instrument sets that need to be worked on.
Engages with surgeons to make suggestions regarding instrument sets (i.e. streamlining sets by removing instruments, combining sets, adding instruments that are always opened separately, etc)
Actively engages in case costing by talking with surgeons regarding product usage, connects with EMIs to make cost savings suggestions, makes suggestions on how to eliminate waste on cases
Qualifications
Requires Associate's Degree or completion of Accredited Surgical Tech Program or equivalent years of experience
Preferred - Surgical Technologist experience (clinical rotations do count asexperience)
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Required within 90 days
Surgical Tech Certification is preferred
