CMB is a research laboratory located on the Health Sciences Campus of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. CCMB is a part of the Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC.

The laboratory is funded through numerous federal and organization sponsored research grants. Many of these grants are from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, under which basic research is conducted into developmental, biochemical and molecular biological aspects of human development with a special emphasis on craniofacial structures in both health and disease.

Working together, we are advancing oral, dental, and craniofacial research toward solving problems in health and promoting the well-being of society.

About the Job:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experiencedProject Managerto assist a principal investigator in managing all phases of a large project grant and any subcontracts. This role involves providing leadership and direction for day-to-day project operations and administrative activities, participating in the planning, design, and development of project protocols, data acquisition, management, and analysis, as well as reporting of study results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist a principal investigator with formulating research objectives, organizing, and scheduling activities to meet objectives.

  • Develop and implement operating policies, procedures, and systems to support planned operations, ensuring they are well-documented and communicated to project personnel.

  • Contribute to the design of research protocols, evaluate and recommend procedures for data acquisition, management, and quality control.

  • Evaluate and recommend statistical methods for data analysis, monitor, and interpret results of analysis.

  • Prepare technical reports and papers on study plans, progress, and results of research activities.

  • Develop and manage project budgets, authorize expenditures, and monitor account reconciliation to ensure compliance with fiscal guidelines and regulations.

  • Direct ongoing purchasing activities, including authorization of major purchases.

  • Directly or indirectly manage staff assigned to the project, plan and staff project operations based on proposed research activities and timelines.

  • Make hiring, promotional, and salary decisions in accordance with University policy.

  • Provide training and technical supervision to staff, motivate, and monitor the progress of work performed by project staff.

  • Identify funding sources and opportunities, author technical proposals, and interface with funding agencies to exchange information regarding project status.

  • Develop and implement public relations strategies, respond to external requests for information, and develop various types of communication pieces.

  • Coordinate and link project operations with other administrative and research functions on and off-campus.

  • Establish and maintain an active network of professional contacts, remain informed of the current status of completed and ongoing research in related areas, and participate in professionally sponsored meetings, seminars, and symposia.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

  • Master's degree required

  • Doctorate preferred

  • Combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum education

  • Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of directly related education and project administration experience in a specialized field represented by the project

  • Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and project management skills

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures

  • Experience in budget management and financial reporting

  • Proficiency in data acquisition, management, and analysis

  • Ability to manage and motivate staff effectively

The annual base salary range for this position is $98,186.70 to $115,000.
