Your Opportunity

Join our Civic and Transit Buildings practice in the downtown Los Angeles office, that provides Architecture, Project Management, Buildings Engineering, and Workplace Design services. We have a long history and deep commitment to our clients that include civic agencies, such as departments of water & power, public works, water sanitation, transit agencies, public utility providers, and the local and federal governments.

We are seeking a Project Architect/Project Manager to join our integrated buildings practice. An ideal candidate would be an architect with an interest in project management and contracts management.

As a contributor on our professional team, you will work collaboratively with the design team(s) to assist clients through all phases of design, from planning to construction administration. You will also work with peer project managers and principals overseeing the scope, schedule, and budget of community impactful design projects. Understanding that Project Management at every firm can be a unique experience, we offer on-the-job training.

Your experience ensures that you are familiar with all phases of project development and capable of leading a team through production of design and contract documents. You will also lead the development of integrated technical design proposals, develop fee schedules, prepare a variety of output/drawings throughout the project, and collaborate with team members to contribute to the final deliverables.

Your Key Responsibilities as Project Architect

  • Lead project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor and sub-contractors.

  • Engage in the development of a design through sketches, digital models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.

  • Manage team and process creating contract documents.

  • Utilize BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.

  • Participate in design critiques, pin-ups, and in-person charrette sessions with the client.

  • Interpret and apply building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies.

  • Prepare and revise documentation in various architectural phases including programming/planning, site plans, floor plans, building elevations, building sections, details.

  • Participate in bidding and negotiation phase and prepare addenda.

  • Review shop drawings and submittals, respond to RFIs, prepare site observation reports, and other contract administration tasks.

  • Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.

  • Assist in the preparation of the project specifications.

  • Coordination of specs with construction documents.

  • Participate in constructability reviews.

  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects.

  • Report-writing for project deliverables, including Basis-of-Design reports and technical memos.

Your Key Responsibilities as Project Manager

  • Responsible for varied size projects, from master service agreement (on-calls) to medium and large projects of high complexity.

  • Lead project kick-offs, coordination, and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor and sub-contractors if no PA is available.

  • If working with another Project Architect or Job Captain, your role will be focused on general project oversight, contract and fee management, add service proposal writing, progress reports, and subconsultant invoice review/approvals.

  • Additional monthly responsibilities include assisting with staffing plans, project financial updates for the accounting department, and other marketing & business development opportunities.

  • Short-term travel – primarily within CA and the west coast – may also be necessary for project work.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Requisite knowledge and application of accessibility codes and building codes.

  • Strong understanding of all phases of architectural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Strong knowledge of building construction systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.

  • Ability to conduct space planning, block planning and adjacencies in coordination with building program.

  • Ability to develop floor plans, wall sections, and details in Revit. Knowledge of AutoCAD is also helpful across discipline coordination; but Revit is the firm standard for architecture.

  • Ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Ability to lead one or more teams collaboratively, through all phases of architectural document production – effective at both in-person and remote coordination.

  • Ability to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Ability to hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.

  • Strong presentation and interview skills.

  • Requires strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, BIM360, Revit, and Bluebeam Studio.

  • Additional familiarity with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Newforma, and SketchUp is valued

  • Experience with SpecLink or E-Specs preferred but not required.

  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.

California licensed Architect preferred.

Minimum of 7 years of experience in the architectural -engineering industry.

LEED Green Associate or LEED AP a plus

Skilled in Revit.

Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • CA Other Areas $86,700 - CA Other Areas $125,800 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
