Job Description

The De-Mil Senior Supervisor/Environmental Engineer is primarily responsible for supervising and coordinating all day-to-day activities of the Remington de-mil plant to include supervision of all de-mil employees, environmental data collection and reporting requirements, and management of equipment maintenance. Is responsible for overall safety and compliance with state and federal permits, as well as the operational and financial results of the de-mil plant. Will ensure that all regulatory compliance and safety issues are addressed and are within compliance. Will ensure that the location meets or exceeds its goals as it pertains to regulatory compliance, revenue growth, budget, profit growth, account retention, safety and continuous improvement. Will lead facility staff and operations to ensure the proper handling and treatment of all waste streams in compliance with Remington’s policy and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Assigns work to production crews and supervises their activities throughout the shift.

  • Audits crews’ performance for quality, quantity, safety conformance and utilization of resources to ensure maximum effectiveness

  • Monitors production schedules and progress to coordinate work between shifts

  • Reviews schedule board, shift reports, procedures and records for receiving, handling, storing, packaging and transporting materials to ensure accuracy, safety, efficiency and compliance with all applicable regulations, company policies, and Facility Operating Permits

  • Conducts activities to protect the wellbeing of employees, the public and the environment to ensure compliance with preventative measures by inspecting production area and equipment

  • Properly completing required inspection forms, identifying regulatory compliance and maintenance problems and implementing appropriate corrective actions

  • Reports and responds to plant emergencies. Performs published Contingency Plan Emergency Response procedures and acts as Alternate Emergency if appointed. When accidents or incidents occur identifies the cause, reviews and amends procedures as necessary and communicates finding to personnel

  • Manages all scheduled, unscheduled, and preventative maintenance of de-mil plant equipment and processes.

  • Coordinates with site safety team to ensure compliance with all local, State, and Federal safety regulations with a particular focus on explosives safety.

  • Compiles data and prepares Local, State, and Federal regulatory reports as well as Corporate environmental reports and requests. Ensures that regulatory and corporate reporting deadlines are met. Ensures current policies, procedures, and documentation complies with government laws and regulations.

  • Ensures that all required records and inspection reports are retained and available for inspection review.

  • Conducts visual environmental inspections to ensure compliance with RCRA, AIR, and NPDES regulatory requirements.

  • Develops waste profile sheets on in-plant generated wastes. Coordinates outgoing loads and ships materials in compliance with operational procedures and regulatory regulations

  • Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste Tracking/Disposal: Completes waste determination and maintains waste determination records. Reviews inventories of hazardous/non-hazardous waste storage. Performs and completes waste manifesting and ensures full compliance with RCRA regulations with particular focus on TSDF (Subpart B) and Air (EEE Title V) requirements.

  • Reviews waste manifests from other source locations and makes determinations on ability to process.

  • Coordinates all aspects of Annual Environmental training for designated plant employees including researching and creating training material and providing training.

  • Interprets federal state, and local laws, regulations, and orders as they apply to environmental and potentially safety practices and implements policies and procedures to ensure that these practices are following the appropriate statutes and regulations, and that regulatory reporting requirements are met.

  • Investigates and provides technical solutions to compliance problems, both simple and complex, and questions, or complaints received from within the company, from customers, government regulatory agencies, etc. that are consistent with organizational objectives.

  • Interacts with federal, state, and local regulators to resolve compliance issues.

  • May conduct studies to determine the environmental impact of company operations.

  • Performs above tasks with minimal supervision following established procedures.

  • Assists in planning changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements.

  • Coordinates and assists in carrying out internal company environmental audits.

  • Performs other reasonably related tasks as assigned by manager

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or business administration/management or experience in lieu of education.

  • 5+ years’ experience in hazardous waste industry

  • 5 years’ work experience in general environmental regulations and reporting.

  • 3+ years management experience

  • Thorough understanding and broad application of environmental regulations, standards, principles, theories, and techniques. Willing to learn safety regulations and standards.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, consistently accurate record keeping with a high attention to detail.

  • Good math skills with the ability to recognize improbable results.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with RCRA Subpart B and EEE Title V requirements.

  • Experience supervising or managing a Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility.

  • Certified Environmental Manager
