The role: Lead M&E Engineering Surveyor

The Lead M&E Surveyor job is a senior position within the Technical Team, reporting to the Technical Director. The role requires management and leadership of a small surveying team in their field of mechanical and electrical building engineering services expertise, and liaison with their counterparts in the Fabric Surveyor team

Key responsibilities include: the production of the survey inspection programme to maintain information regarding the condition and life cycle of M&E building plant assets; the development of short and long term programme recommendations including the budgeting, production, prioritisation and scoping of the annual life cycle replacement and other investment programmes; ad hoc survey and investigation works..

Key responsibilities are as follows:

Lead and manage a UK team of M&E surveyors, and take ownership for a defined number of properties/area, to:

  • Provide the development of BT’s annual LCR (Life cycle replacement) and associated capital programme, with associated risk management processes, and the oversight of subsequent programme delivery.

  • Provide technical guidance as requested to the CBRE BT Account team and BT colleagues planning to undertake works/installations that might have an impact on the structure fabric or engineering services of buildings.

  • Provide and coordinate M&E engineering professional services advice as required.

  • Ensure compliance with BT and CBRE policies and relevant standards and regulations

  • Maintain the Life Cycle database

  • Work with the surveying and project teams to improve and develop processes and documentation

  • Liaise with and support the operational delivery teams to ensure successful delivery of BT’s objectives, and to provide technical advice in support of the management of incidents when requested to do so

Person Specification:

  • Minimum qualification: Professional engineering qualification such as MCIBSE or equivalent, minimum 10+years post qualification experience, M&E management and surveying experience & knowledge

  • Experience and understanding of various forms of procurement, in particular the NEC and JCT standard forms of contract

  • Understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work stages, particularly stages 4-7

  • Able to work across a large number of projects at one time

  • An awareness of benchmarking cost to support best value design and procurement

  • An ability to quickly understand and apply standard procedures associated with project delivery

  • Proven Commercial experience on projects

  • Commercially astute with good negotiating skills

  • IT literacy, specifically a good knowledge of Excel

  • Ability to communicate at senior levels within both CBRE and BT

  • Team player with good communication skills and an approachable yet assertive style
