Job Overview:

Assists in the preparation and distribution of medications in a safe and effective manner under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and adheres to corporate/department policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • One year of retail pharmacy with strong data entry experience is required.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and demonstrate command of the English language as required by NJ Board of Pharmacy regulations.

  • Must maintain required annual training from both RWJBarnabas Health System and Barnabas Health Retail Pharmacy

Preferred:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred or equivalent experience.

Certifications and Licenses Required

  • Must maintain an active pharmacy technician registration as required by NJ Board of Pharmacy.

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-time, Day

  • Some weekends

Essential Functions:

Prescription Workflow Process:

  • Receives prescription request from customers (new/refill) and process their request accordingly and accurately.

  • Assists the pharmacist with accurate filling and labeling of prescriptions.

  • Ability to interpret, calculate the data entry of prescriptions/insurance information and initiate prior authorizations.

  • Works with attention to detail with the realization that errors may have serious consequences.

  • Proficient in use of Pharmacy and other departmental software as required for the position.

  • Adheres to all necessary policies and procedures regarding CII to CV inventory control.

  • Retrieves customer prescription for pick-up and adheres to policy and procedures to verify correct patient.

  • Operates cash register (POS) to accept payment and signatures from customers.

  • Provide quality customer service and answering phones in a timely manner.

  • Follows USP<800> medication regulations when required.

Inventory:

  • Checks in wholesaler order with accuracy and efficiency, resolves discrepancies.

  • Files paperwork/records as defined by company and federal/state regulations.

  • Assist the department with pharmacy inventory management; inventory returns; outdated medications.

  • Shows inventory awareness, ensures that order quantities are optimal based on usage and shelf levels.

  • Maintains and merchandises OTC section as per market demands. Places daily orders and returns with wholesaler.

Miscellaneous:

  • Process bank deposits and change orders as required.

  • Records the temperatures of the refrigerator and ambient room as required by NJ Board of Pharmacy.

  • Assists with prescription filing.

  • Dusting shelves when needed.
