County of Brunswick, Virginia Maintenance Worker in Lawrenceville, Virginia

Department: County Administration

Nature of Work:

Under general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, performs work of routine difficulty in maintenance, repair, minor modification, minor construction and journey level trades such as electrical, hvac, plumbing, carpentry and painting.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Performs maintenance, installation, repair and/or construction work requiring the application of trade skills, and standard trade practices, in a variety of trade areas including but not limited to: electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry and painting.
  • Reviews and corrects maintenance related problems.
  • Provides preventive maintenance and services on heating ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
  • Responsible for all preventive maintenance and repair.
  • Schedules maintenance repairs as directed.
  • Maintains and is responsible for all tools and other restricted items.
  • Selects and procures materials and structural units for County projects as directed.
  • Assists in setup and breakdown for special events.
  • Paints structures and fixtures.
  • Inspects County facilities to ensure conformance with the provisions of building codes and local ordinances, makes repairs as necessary.
  • Coordinate with departments/agencies and ensures that the customer is satisfied with the quality and scheduling of work.
  • Maintains logs and complete reports as necessary.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of tools and equipment relating to maintenance.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Skill in the use of hand and power tools, knowledge of state and local building codes pertaining to job, ability to read building blueprints as well as planning and designing County projects, including conducting cost estimates, ability to perform routine maintenance and monor repairs, ability o follow oral and written directions accurately, ability to prepare required reports, ability to maintain order and discipline within assigned areas, ability to perform maintenance on all equipment, ability to maintain key control, ability to comprehend and follow special instructions, abiity to effectively communicate with others, knowledge in maintaining inventory systems, knowledge of the use, service and repair of heating ventilation, air conditioning refrigeration, plumbing and electrical equipment .

Physical and dexterity refers to the requirement for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Requires medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring bases and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Sensory ability refers to hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell required by the job. The job requires normal visual acuity, depth and perception, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of taste, sense of smell and texture perception.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED no experience necessary

Necessary Requirements:

Possession of a valid and appropriate Virginia driver's license.
