Job Description

A successful candidate will be involved in the daily operations of the research pharmacy and will report directly to the Supervising Lead IDS Pharmacist. The position will be Monday through Friday with the hours being flexible to coincide with research management and medication preparations. This position may require additional work coverage on Saturday and Sunday if a study drug dispensing schedule falls on a weekend. This position will require traveling to other Cancer Institute Pharmacy sites to assist with any operational and regulatory concerns related to the clinical trial. This position is fully on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with Northwell Research policies, FDA and Joint Commission regulations, and standards, and maintain their NCI, CITI, and GCP training to ensure the efficient and compliant operation of the research pharmacy

  • Train and educate pharmacy staff at all Cancer Institute Pharmacy sites and satellites on research protocols, including but not limited to, the management of patient enrollment, completeness of drug accountability logs and records for oncology studies, procurement of study medications, and other operational considerations involved with the clinical research program

  • Participate in feasibility discussions of potential studies with research teams and attend site initiation meetings (SIV), interim monitoring (IMV), and close-out meetings

  • Develop protocol summary procedures, perform amendment reviews, and assist in developing of research pharmacy-related guidelines

  • Ensure that investigational products are being prepared according to the established protocol and in consideration of patient and protocol parameters from the review and set-up of the trial to the patient dispense

  • Along with other IDS team members, assume full responsibility for all research medication ordering, receipt, documentation, storage, preparation, dispensation, distribution, destruction, and record-keeping

  • Manage e-mails relating to prescriptions, orders, treatment assignments as well as general e-mail correspondence in a timely manner

  • Participate in NCI Cooperative Group audits as well as in an internal protocol audit activities to review the accuracy and completeness of the site records

  • Compound and dispense investigational hazardous, biohazardous, and non-hazardous IV and oral medications in full compliance with USP797 and USP800 regulations

  • Assist in a regular oncology pharmacy staffing upon request from the pharmacy leadership in matters of patient care and safety

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Education: RPh or Pharm.D.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of oncology work experience, including hospital and sterile compounding experience, with at least two (2) years of continuous clinical research experience required

  • Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Certification required (may complete within 1 month of hire)

License/Certification/Registration:

  • Must be licensed to practice Pharmacy in New York State. Must possess current pharmacist registration with NYS (New York State) Department of Education, Office of the Professions.

  • Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently to meet deadlines, and adapt to changes in high-volume situations; accepts additional responsibilities based on the changing needs of the work setting.

  • Works effectively as a member of a unit team and cross-functional teams

  • Proficient with technology, research software, references, workflows, safety reporting, and protocol documentation required to perform primary job functions

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.When determining a team member's base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

The salary range for this position is $112,800-$197,200/year
