Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Plans, prepares and delivers highly engaging music curriculum aligned with NYS arts standards for small group lessons.
Evaluates each pupil's musical growth, performance, and musical understanding using assessment data to inform and differentiate instruction.
Collaborates with administration, colleagues, and music staff to support continuity in enrollment and continuation of the program.
Establishes and upholds school wide routines, protocols, and standards of student behavior to provide a safe, positive, and productive learning environment.
Uses relevant technology to support instruction.
Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned musical instruments, sheet music, books, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
Oversees initiation of instrument repairs, as needed.
Maintains frequent communication with students, students' families, colleagues, and other school stakeholders.
Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, behavioral, and learning problems.
Work with diverse populations, including English language learners and students with special needs.
Instruct with sensitivity to different learning styles and a commitment to the success of all children.
Successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
*Strong classroom management skills for large group rehearsals.
*Ability to demonstrate and perform with proper vocal technique.
*Piano skills to accompany choruses in rehearsal.
*Motivation to engage in continuous professional development.
*Creative ideas to motivate students in K-8 general music classes
*Teach in a K-8 setting according to New York State Education Department Learning Standards and building-developed curricula.
Requirements:
*Valid New York State Certification in Music
*Bachelor and/or Master degree with major in music
