National Park Service Tractor Operator in Kosciusko, Mississippi

Career-Seasonal positions and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal positions includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectees will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Natchez Trace Parkway is March through October, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. This position is located at the Natchez Trace Parkway in Kosciusko, Mississippi. The primary function of Tractor Operators during the main season, from late spring to early fall, is to mow and maintain the roadsides along the Parkway and the access roads. During other times of the year, and as necessary during the main season, Tractor Operators perform general maintenance on the Parkway's infrastructure. This includes pavement maintenance such as crack sealing, patching holes, and pulling road shoulders as well as building maintenance including plumbing, painting, roofing, rough carpentry, and minor electrical work. Tractor Operators also remove hazardous trees and limbs and serve as the primary equipment operators. Tractor Operators often work independently or in small groups away from administrative areas and therefore possess all necessary authority and autonomy to carry out normal duty assignments. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license. You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work weekends, holidays, overtime work. You may be required to travel up and down the Natchez Trace Parkway. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Physical Demands: Frequent arm and leg movements are required to operate the tractor and manipulate equipment controls in difficult terrain. In addition, the work involves bending and heave lifting (up to 50 pounds) in handling supplies and materials Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed outside and the incumbent is exposed to all types of weather conditions. Because the work is often performed on steep slopes and in rough terrain the incumbent may be subject to injury from falls or overturn Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
