Potomac State College (WVU Keyser), part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, located in Keyser, WV is seeking applications for a Campus Police Officer. About the Opportunity The primary purpose for this position is to support the University by establishing and maintaining a safe atmosphere for the faculty, staff, students, and visitors at WVU by providing police and security services. Wellness programs PAY GRADE: 16 What you'll do: Patrols assigned area on campus to observe persons and property therein for the purpose of reducing and preventing criminal activities. Checks buildings for security, being alert for situations of deficiencies that make WVU vulnerable to crime. Corrects or reports noted deficiencies. Advises public on ways to make them more secure and seeks public support for crime prevention. Patrols campus during special events such as concerts, football and basketball games, and other similar activities which draw large crowds of people. Directs traffic after said events to alleviate congestion. Provides for crowd control, including subduing large numbers of intoxicated persons. Enforces all Federal, State, and University laws, rules, and regulations. Enforces all campus traffic and parking regulations. Makes arrests in accordance with Departmental arrest policies. Recognizes and apprehends wanted persons, wanted automobiles, and stolen property. Investigates criminal complaints and both traffic and non-traffic accidents in conjunction with the Investigative Unit by collecting and preserving evidence, interviewing witnesses and interrogating suspects, searching records, and surveillance activities. Testifies in court or University hearing to knowledge of or actions taken in regard to matters of interest to the courts or University. Watches for fire, fire hazards, safety hazards, and other dangerous or damaging situations. Takes appropriate action when a water leak, chemical spill, or other related hazardous condition is detected. Administers first-aid to injured or sick persons and provides or arranges for necessary transportation. Escorts persons making cash deposits, ensuring the safety of those individuals transporting large sums of money.
