FARMING LOGISTICS LLC General Farmworker in KALISPELL, Montana

Temporary full time from 8/13/2024 - 10/7/2024 Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of hops. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work. Workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers. General hop production will include the following responsibilities: maintain, drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; mow weeds; remove rocks from field; perform general cleanup of farm areas, corrugates, and ditches surrounding fields; drive, load/unload farm trucks; operate vehicle, motor bike or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; build/maintain/repair trellises; fix/replace/install wire; stretch cable and attach clamps; remove vines/broken strings/weeds/debris from growing hop plants; haul torn out hop poles and trellis. Duties related to hop harvest will include the following: walk the fields and pick up vines left behind; cut vines with machete and load into trucks; unload trucks at stationary picking machine; observe picking machine and ensure proper operation; keep track of all tools and ensure picking machine is off when performing any type of maintenance; ensure picking machine is lubricated; use telehandler to load hops into machine and ensure machine remains loaded, does not jam, and runs at capacity at all times; grab/lift/place vines on hooks that transfer vines from truck beds to picking apparatus; clean hop debris from work site; use broom to sweep fallen hops to bottom conveyor; check belts/vine transfers/trash; operate valves on machinery to regulate vines coming down track; regulate flow of vines into picker; pick sticks/debris out of hops being laid into hop kiln; ensure hop floors are laid correctly; communicate with kiln operator and stick pickers; take moisture samples from each kiln floor before removing; operate conveyor to remove hops from kiln floor once dried; sweep/clean hop debris from machines and work areas; oversee/check moisture content in hops with moisture meter in dryer facility; assist main dryer worker; operate dryer controls to maintain/adjust temperature, air flow, and transport conveyors; move dry hops from dryer to cooling room/floor; move dry hops from dryer to baler once drying is complete; ensure baling machine is operating correctly and at capacity; move hop bales using hand cart; observe and prep balers; maintain/keep records/reports; push dried hops onto belt and into baler; compress/bale hops; sew ends of hop bales with sewing machine or by hand; mark each bale with lot and variety; walk rows following harvest to pick up fallen hop bines, pile bines in field, and place in trailers. Irrigation duties will include the following: Drip Irrigation: Walk behind tractor to install and lay drip irrigation equipment in fields; move hoses; remove drip irrigation and layflat from fields prior to harvest; ensure layflat spools correctly when removing from field; maintain/repair drip irrigation; flush lines; inspect, monitor, maintain, system daily. Other Irrigation Duties: connect pipes.
