JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to provide multidisciplinary Instrumentation, Control, and automations skills to ensure preventive and proactive maintenance and operation of the plant to achieve factory performance targets. The AI&C Engineer/Technician keeps the instrumentation and control system operational by fault finding, correcting faults and documenting system changes. Leads/ provides technical support in all factory automation and digital activities.

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

  • Analyses, faultfinding & problem solving on control systems instruments and automation equipment

  • Identify deviations and non-conforming items on equipment and assess what steps to take to rectify these deviations and non-conformances

  • Ensure that any breakdowns or short stops in area of responsibility are recorded

  • Perform the function of subject matter expert as the entire factory will be heavily reliant on this incumbent understanding of instrumentation to provide sound technical guidance, support and direction both strategically and operationally

  • Manage contractors and their activities in automation and control area

  • Coordinate and facilitate shop floor training and guidelines

Engineering:

  • Diagnoses and interprets multi-disciplinary problems (fault-finding) to optimize production output and carries out the plant repairs

  • Ensures that service levels are maintained at the required standards by carrying out all breakdown, preventative and predictive maintenance effectively

  • Support maintenance for area of responsibility and assist in all projects from an instrumentation and control perspective that are running in respective area

  • Take responsibility of managing ICE systems in the Packing/Making area

  • Participate in strategic engineering plans to deliver maintenance benefits

  • Ensure availability and effective utilization of equipment and system integrity and backups

Digital:

  • Support the factories digital agenda, Execution of DFOS wiring and set up, main digital lead and contacts

  • Work closely with regional and global teams on improvement projects ( Dfos, Energy optimizations, Cyber security..etc).

Problem solving and decision making:

  • Faultfinding and problem solving of engineering/ operational problems in his area by ensuring that the appropriate corrective action regarding any deviation from standards is taken

  • Identifies the major engineering losses in his area and investigates using problem solving methodologies

Supports effective maintenance:

  • Perform routine and emergency repairs of the plant instrumentation, plant PLC control and SCADA systems, plant electrical systems

  • Contributes to the reduction of breakdowns in area of responsibility by analyzing breakdowns, complying with the preventative planned maintenance requirement and implementing continuous improvements

  • Participates in strategic engineering plans to deliver maintenance and breakdown reduction benefits

Administration:

  • Completes all required documentation to standard and captures SAP, maintenance and stores information on relevant data system

SHE:

  • Ensures that Company safety rules and regulations are adhered to within the sphere of responsibility

  • Ensure Automation, Instrumentation and Control equipment comply with safety standards

  • Assist with quarterly audit if necessary

  • Ensure Instrumentation and Control aspects comply with QV (Quality Verification), ISO and IRCA (International Regulatory Chemical Agency) standards

  • Assists with behavioral safety to eliminate incidents and near misses

Autonomous Maintenance:

  • Draws up, Coaches and develops engineering skills to other maintenance and operational staff

  • Completes tags in area of responsibility to the completion ratio required

Projects:

  • Lead and manage Automation, instrumentation and control projects. Define instrumentation scope and standards for new equipment installations, upgrades and plant changes

  • Identify additional opportunities in the plant for automating certain activities and autonomously scope out requirements including contractors.

  • Contractor management of Automation and control area

Leadership:

  • Develop, mentor and coach interns, artisans,

    Experiences & Qualifications

  • N4 in Instrumentation and Trade Test in Instrumentation / Diploma in Control and Instrumentation/ BTech Control and Instrumentation

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Maintenance environment

  • Expert knowledge in Instrumentation and Control systems preferably in a FMCG environment

  • Instrumentation hardware knowledge of flow measurement, temperature, pressure, load cell mass levels and weighing equipment

  • Must understand the Process environment end to end and (PNID) Process Instrumentation Diagrams

  • Programming and Configuration of Process automated Valves on ASI network

  • Experience with programming control system and PID controllers will be advantage

  • Must understand and have experience with SCADA & HMI developments

  • Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC experience will be advantage

  • Understand and identifying component failure, diagnose and repair independently will be an advantage

  • Proficient computer literacy in SAP, Access, Outlook and Microsoft Office
