MD Anderson Cancer Center Cook I - Dining Services in Houston, Texas

The Cook I in the department of Dining Services Production at MD Anderson Cancer Center produces quality food and beverages for patients, guests and visitors. Production may be in quantity or cooked-to-order. Maintains quality and freshness of all food served in Patient Room Service & Dining Services. Follow standard practices, departmental policies and procedures and comply with regulatory requirements.

The shift will primarily be 5:30am - 2:00pm, with rotating weekends and holidays required. Must be willing to work a varied schedule to support a 24 hour operation.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience cooking in a high-volume food service environment.

Dining Services at MD Anderson offers eight unique dining venues spread across the Texas Medical Center, an exceptional on-sight catering department, and two coffee bars located in The Woodlands and West Houston. Hourly breakdown of salary range:

Minimum $17.00 - Midpoint $19.08 - Maximum $21.15

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

Productivity:

Responsible for any short-order cooking assignments in the venue, completes assigned tasks as scheduled. Is present and on time for all assigned meetings.

Safety & Sanitation:

Thoroughly cleans and sanitizes equipment and work area daily. Makes daily rotations of stored food items, utilizing FIFO. Reports spoiled or poor quality food items to supervisor. Safely operates equipment. Distributes leftover food items according to procedures and records all product transactions. Performs daily inventories of all leftover items, discarding unusable items. Reuses or returns to storage useable leftovers.

Recipe Compliance:

Prepares food items from standardized recipes w/100% accuracy. Issues food items with 100% accuracy to the venue. Prepares and inventories assigned food items in bulk. Accurately reviews all computer-generated information for content and makes reports to the supervisor.

May be moved to new locations and/or shifts as operations dictate. Cross training may also involve shift changes.

EDUCATION:

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: One year related experience in a high volume food service environment.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

Must obtain a current Texas Food Handlers Certification within 30 days of entry into job.
