MD Anderson Cancer Center Campus Services Supervisor - Veterinary Medicine & Surgery in Houston, Texas

The Veterinary Medicine and Surgery department exists to serve MD Anderson research programs. Our primary aim is to provide the best possible veterinary care, facilities and services in support of the institutional animal care and use program, in keeping with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) accreditation standards. The department's capabilities are broad based and flexible to accommodate a variety of research interests while remaining in compliance with required standards. The basis of our program is centered on the well being of all animals, the best interests of our researchers, and the best interest of MD Anderson and its animal care and use program.

The ideal candidate will have at least a high school diploma and possess strong organizational skills supervising the receipt and handling of goods and equipment.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Supervision of Materials Management Operations

  • Supervises, trains, monitors and evaluates assigned personnel.

  • Makes recommendations to the Associate Director, Animal Facility Operations for hire, merit increases, and promotions. Approves or denies time off requests and approves timesheets weekly.

  • Initiates disciplinary actions. Assists the Associate Director, Animal Facility Operations with escorting contractors, vendors to designated work areas.

Receipt and Inventory of Items

  • Maintains departmental inventory of supplies and ensures adequate stocks of supplies and consumables to meet departmental needs.

  • Orders, receives, and distributes incoming supplies, but not limited to feed, bedding, scrubs, linens and equipment.

  • Checks shipments for damaged shipments.

  • Checks shipments against packing list and purchase order for accuracy of count and description.

  • Works with vendor, Project Manager, and/or Senior Procurement Specialist to handle problems associated with accurate/damaged shipments.

  • Enters orders and updates in SharePoint as necessary.

  • Retrieves and distributes supplies on request.

  • Routinely inspects supply and feed storage areas checking for cleanliness, liquid spills, vermin, expiration dates etc.

  • Physically assists with unloading of items to include operation of forklifts and dollies.

  • Maintains inventory log of equipment and items stored at warehouse.

  • Moves, relocates, or rearranges furniture, equipment, or supplies as assigned by Associate Director, Animal Facility Operations.

  • Participates in yearly inventory of departmental equipment.

  • Maintains the storage of supplies and equipment in the department warehouse in an orderly manner consistent with safe operation standards and institutional Fire Code regulations.

  • Prepares relocation paperwork for any items moved to the department warehouse or the institutional warehouse.

  • Ensures that all emergency preparedness supplies are accessible and in acceptable condition for immediate use.

Equipment, Facility, Vehicle Maintenance and Transportation

  • Performs minor repairs or modifications.

  • Ensures equipment is in proper working order, reporting malfunctions to the Project Coordinator.

  • Assist in providing access for equipment certification, preventive maintenance, etc.

  • Maintains and operates sanitation related equipment including, but not limited to, vaporized hydrogen peroxide unit, misting tunnels, foggers.

  • Maintains Vehicle Use Logs and submits completed logs to Associate Director, Animal Facility Operations.

  • Maintains delivery/warehousing vehicles and equipment by posting daily maintenance record, servicing vehicles, equipment and forklift with gas and oil and tire pressure check.

  • Cleans or washes vehicles/equipment.

  • Transports animals, supplies, personnel, and materials within and between buildings and campuses.

  • Perform the duties of subordinates when necessary.

  • Other Duties as assigned.

Education

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

Required: Four years of experience in supervising the receipt and handling of goods and equipment. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.

Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
