Job Summary: Performs CT Exams as requested by referring clinicians. Contributes to the efficient operation of the department.
Job Results & Essential Function
Performs all CT exams as requested by referring clinicians. Is responsible for all post-processing as required by the exam protocol or the Radiologists.
Records all pertinent clinical history.
Consults with the Radiologists if there are any technical questions about procedural protocols.
Reviews each exam for technical accuracy, presents completed exams to the Radiologist, and communicates any pertinent information to persons responsible for the patient’s care.
Maintains the daily patient log.
Burns CD’s as requested—ensuring that only the requested CT is on the CD.
Performs the daily QA testing
Takes “on-call” as required.
Maintains inventory and notifies supervisor when stock is low.
Evening Technologists assist the evening X-Ray Technologist in performing radiographic exams and assisting in any way as needed.
Keeps the CT area cleaned and stocked at all times.
Participates in the orientation and training of any new employees and/or students.
Maintains current active status with the ARRT and New York State and is responsible for maintaining the required CEUs.(This can be verified at www.arrt.org).
Responsible for understanding and adherence to the Code of conduct and the Corporate Compliance Plan at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Participates in all educational requirements related to Corporate Compliance as required by the CCP educational plan.
Able to use PACS and Meditech to look up and enter correct patient data.
Understands the importance of patient dose based on age and size of the patient.
Able to identify contraindications (lab values, disease history, or allergies) for providing IV contrast even if it is ordered by a physician.
Requirements
Education & Experience
Graduate of an accredited Radiological Technology Program.
Must be able to manage patients during procedures.
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Registered by the ARRT in Radiologic Technology and preferable also in CT. (This can be verified at www.arrt.org).
Must be licensed by the State of New York or eligible.
Must be able to operate CT equipment.
Physical Demands
Must be able to move up to 50lbs. Must be able to transverse, remain in a stationary position, operate equipment, ascend and descend stairs, position patients, use many kinds of equipment in the department and throughout the hospital. Must be able to take “call”.
Language Ability
Ability to read, write and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific/trade/technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, or regulatory agencies. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, patients, and vendors.
Math Ability
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, rates, and ratios.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Requires the ability to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption. The technologist must be able to understand and relate concepts behind specific ideas.
Working Conditions
Potential exposure to chemicals and communicable diseases and related medical waste, radiation, as well as possible exposure to blood, bloody fluids, and tissues.
