The Opportunity:

Responsible for receiving, storage and handling, and processing of logs, wood chips, and boiler fuel. Also responsible for product quality, employee safety and training.

How you will impact WestRock:

Ensures the safety and health of all personnel in area of responsibility as related to work activities. Maintains compliance and enforces mill safety rules and policies. Develop, document, and train employees on safe work procedures. Proactively identify and mitigate job hazards ensuring a quality supply of wood chips to the mill operating areas.

In this role, you’ll be entrusted with the stewardship of assets and be expected to make timely operational decisions to maximize mill production with respect to mill issues. As a key leader in the department, you will drive shift performance to meet departmental objectives with a key focus on continuous improvement.

Drive safety engagement, awareness, and adherence to safety policies and procedures

Actively apply and ensure alignment with the quality policies and principles.

Monitors wood inventories. Manage all aspects of costs related to the woodyard area and work to maximize and improve costs, yields, and waste.

Ensure environmental policies and practices are adhered to.

Drive team effectiveness through continued employee development and performance management. Provides long range goals for production improvements and employee training.

Coordinates maintenance activity.

Responsible for conducting business with integrity and respect, being accountable, and actively pursuing excellence to help achieve WestRock’s Path To One goals.

What you need to succeed:

High school diploma or equivalent and 8 years of related work experience.

Experience in Woodyard operations, chip handling, and system operations is preferred.

General understanding of a paper mill operations and interdependency

Ability to lead and motivate others in the areas of safety and production.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization.

Ability to clearly define objectives and be effective in involving others in achievement of these objectives.

Dedicated to continuous improvement in the Woodyard department with special emphasis on safety, quality, environment, production, and cost.

Call duty required.
