Actalent Hardware Engineer in Hilliard, Ohio

Job Title: Hardware EngineerJob Description

We are seeking an FPGA / Hardware Engineer to support work in the defense and aerospace industry. This engineer will design and develop custom high-speed digital signal-processing cards and firmware for next-generation precision tracking radars and radar cross section (RCS) measurement systems. The work will require someone to be onsite and local to Columbus, OH.

Responsibilities

  • Capture design requirements.

  • Design and develop digital subsystems.

  • Perform VDHL/Verilog firmware development.

  • Collaborate with embedded software engineers to develop architectures.

  • Perform hardware-in-the-loop testing.

  • Generate product documentation (Interface Control Documents, theory of operation, etc.).

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar.

  • 5+ years of professional working experience with Xilinx FPGA development.

  • 5+ years of professional working experience with VDHL or Verilog programming.

  • Experience with Xilinx VDHL or RFSoC development.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Digital circuit design experience.

  • Experience with radar imaging and/or tracking (SAR, ISAR), RF, and electromagnetic theory.

  • Must be eligible for a US secret security clearance.

Work Environment

You will have a private workspace. Initially, you will be working in the lab with a software and hardware engineer on the team, getting new products up and running. The facility is 50,000 square feet. Your day will be split, with 50% at your desk and 50% in the lab/floor. The role involves significant FPGA programming (80-90%) initially, transitioning to more hardware design in the future. The work environment is high tech, with low bureaucracy and few meetings, supported by a smart team. You must be physically agile and able to support hands-on work with large indoor and outdoor radar systems and be able to lift, carry, and mount electronics equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. into chassis or structures. The role requires being in the office Monday through Friday, with core hours from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, offering flexibility outside those hours as long as an 8-hour day is completed. There is potential for a hybrid work arrangement in the future, but initially, full onsite presence is required for training and team collaboration. Relocation assistance is available.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $44.00 - $80.00/hr.
