Akima Associate Software Engineer in Herndon, Virginia

Cloud Lake is looking for an Associate Software Engineer to work in Herndon, VA. As an Associate Software Engineer, you’ll join Cloud Lake’s elite CDx Team—a specialized digital consulting group driving sustainable transformation through purposeful technology adoption. CDx consultants work alongside federal clients to integrate cloud computing, automation, DevSecOps, and data-driven decision-making, enabling smarter operations and stronger capabilities. Whether it’s rebuilding platforms, optimizing workflows, or deploying scalable cloud solutions, CDx delivers deep technical expertise with a mission-first mindset to create real, lasting impact.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to one or more active project teams.

  • Develop, test, and maintain cloud-based and hybrid applications and websites that are secure, scalable, and maintainable.

  • Support full-stack development, including APIs, front-end components, back-end services, and data flows.

  • Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives.

  • Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure, compliant delivery.

  • Assist with troubleshooting, defect resolution, and performance optimization.

  • Contribute to solution design and technical documentation aligned with customer needs.

  • Learn and apply DevSecOps practices to develop secure and resilient software.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and apply them effectively.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduating senior in their final semester (May 2025) pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.

  • Hands-on experience through coursework, personal projects, or internships in software development, cybersecurity, and/or cloud computing.

  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language: Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, etc.

  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and a basic understanding of Agile development practices.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.

  • US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain a government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to full-stack development through academic or internship experience.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools and DevOps practices.

  • Previous experience supporting government or defense-related projects.
