When hospitals cannot provide the advanced care, expertise and new treatment options their patients require, they turn to us. * * Job Summary: The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Specialist is prepared at the graduate level and certified in NPD. The NPD specialist is a nursing development and practice leader responsible for functioning within the context and framework of the Nursing Professional Development, Scope and Standards practice as approved by the American Nurses Association. This position works in collaboration with nursing leadership to develop and facilitate competency management, clinical nursing education, professional role development, policy standardization, collaborative partnerships, scientific inquiry, transition to practice and onboarding/orientation of new Hartford HealthCare colleagues. * * Job Responsibilities: · Learning Facilitator:Leverages the educational design process and adult learning principles to bridge the knowledge, skills and/or practice gaps identified through learning needs assessment and evaluation of outcomes. · Collaborative Partner:Serves as a project or workgroup leader on learning and practice initiatives. Acts as a consultant and collaborates with members of the nursing leadership team to assess learning needs, develops programs, monitors clinical competency and supports action plans.* · *Role Development:Promotes professional nursing practice and quality patient care according to the ANA standards of practice. Endorses the theory-based approach through the continuum of practice from novice to expert. · Mentor:Mentors for professional development and career advancement.* * * · Advances the profession of nursing and the NPD specialty by contributing to the professional development of others and championing the ongoing professional learning as individuals develop across practice, professional and educational settings. * * · *Competency Management:Develops, implements andutilizes tools to capture knowledge, skill, ability judgment and performance during the situational or dynamic phases of practice (i.e. initial and ongoing competencies). · Orientation:Develops, facilitates, conducts and evaluates programs during the onboarding phase and when changes in roles, responsibilities and practice occur. · Change Agent:Leads work to transform processes at micro, meso and/or macro system levels. Uses change management strategies and theories to drive desired outcomes. · Guides the development and revision of institutional policies, protocols, procedures and standards of care based on evidence-based practice. · Acts as liaison and establishes interdisciplinary relationships to move change forward. · Champion of Scientific InquiryModels andpromotes a spirit of inquiry, the generation and dissemination of new knowledge and the use of evidence to advance NPD practice, guide clinical practice and improve the quality of care for the healthcare consumer/partner. · Master’s Degree (If not in nursing, BSN required).
