The business includes The AARP® Automobile and Homeowners Insurance Program serving more than 37 million members.The Personal Lines Assistant Director (AD) Product Management has profit and loss responsibility for our auto and homeowner’s insurance products for multiple states within an assigned region. This individual's ideas, insights, and ability to execute a strategic vision and foster change directly impacts our business and our shareholders.

In addition to developing and executing a strategic vision that enables long-term success, the AD, Product Manager is intimately involved in setting prices, designing product features, and articulating the type of business that the company should target for profitable growth in his or her assigned states. By applying critical thinking, communication skills, and creativity to challenges, the AD, Product Manager has accountability for one or more states within a defined region for a Fortune 500 company.

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.  Candidates who live near one of our core office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).   Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for achieving profit and growth targets for assigned states

  • Strong data analytical skills and familiarity with post-monitoring, root-cause identification, etc.

  • Develop strategic vision and tactical plan that will profitably expand market share within assigned states

  • Guide the day-to-day needs of numerous functional area partners who are supporting assigned states

  • Close connection to state-specific data so that shifts in competitiveness and profitability are well anticipated

  • Work directly with organizational teammates when developing, customizing, and launching new products/features

  • Partner with resources necessary to maintain state compliance, quality and competitiveness regarding policy forms and coverage

  • Effectively collaborate across a network of professional disciplines including Actuarial, Finance, Claims, Operations, Marketing and Sales

  • Adhere to states' regulatory requirements; successfully represent The Hartford brand in all interactions with state Department of Insurance employees

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the P&C insurance industry, and 2+ years in Product or P&L Management

  • Experience in pricing, underwriting or data & analytics is a plus

  • A bachelor’s degree preferably in a discipline requiring critical thinking and analytical skills preferred

  • Able to effectively manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision

  • Analytical and critical thinking skills, with thorough attention to detail

  • Comfort level with presentation and marketing skills; interpersonal and relationship management skills with an emphasis on customer focus, collaboration and partnering to obtain results

  • Knowledge of state laws to make decisions regarding key issues & to identify opportunities to affect legislative change

  • Solution-oriented individual with ability to think strategically and implement change

  • Ability to plan for the long-term while balancing the short-term needs of the organization

  • Team player with experience building strong relationships both internally and externally, and with a sense of initiative and strong desire to succeed

  • Ability to evaluate loss cost models in an effort to construct innovative and successful risk pricing strategies

  • An independent thinker as well as a challenger/advocate to ensure the soundness of product and pricing; able to understand financial ramifications

  • Travel commitment of up to 10% for market-related travel

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$99,760 - $149,640
