Amergis LPN Corrections | Weekly Pay (Days/Nights) in Hampton, Virginia

The Corrections Licensed Practical Nurse works in close and immediate contact with adults and children in custody on a daily basis providing general and emergency nursing care in the Medical and Ambulatory section of the Corrections Facility while maintaining facility security standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement, treat and evaluate the patient/inmate

  • Integrates and implements referrals of inmates to the staff physician, nurse practitioner, dentist, mental health professional

  • Looks for signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient’s condition and reports to RN and/or physician

  • Collaborates with RN regarding the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventions

  • Documents patient’s response to nursing and other interventions

  • Monitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment and equipment

  • Participates in infection control activities as directed by Infection Control Coordinator and/or nursing supervisor

  • Participates in the orientation and continuing education of staff as applicable

  • Participates in the Health Quality Improvement Program as applicable

  • Adheres to all facility policy and procedure

  • Follow security guidelines and protocol on tools/sharps counts and ingress/egress policies at all times

  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

  • Possesses a current Practical Nursing License in the applicable state

  • Minimum of one year experience in Corrections preferred

  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable

  • Current CPR if applicable

  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site

  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required

  • Computer proficiency required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
