Position Objectives
Halifax County E-911 Communications is currently accepting applications for future employment. Applications and background release forms can be picked up / submitted at the Halifax County Administration Office, 1050 Mary Bethune Street, Halifax. They can also be found online at www.halifaxcountyva.gov, under the jobs section. Please use internet explorer to access both forms. The background release form must be notarized. Applications can also be mailed to Halifax County E-911 Center P.O. Box 699 Halifax, Virginia 24558. Applicants must be 18 years of age, possess a valid driver's license, capable of passing a physical, criminal / driving background check and drug testing. NO PHONE CALLS, EMAILS, OR FAXES WILL BE ACCEPTED. Halifax County is an EOE.
Duties and Responsibilities
Receives incoming E-911 Emergency / non-emergency calls for Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS, Animal Control, Game and Inland Fisheries, VDOT, State Parks, VSP, and other Local, State, and Federal Agencies. Applicant must have the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Applicant must be able to work a varied shift, including weekends and holidays.
Applicant will possess a professional and positive demeanor, strong public relations skills and efficient work habits. The applicant must have a minimum, high school diploma or equivalent, basic computer skills, ability to type, ability to articulate clearly and concisely on the telephone, excellent multi-tasking skills, ability to manage stressful situations, maintain confidentiality, and operate basic office equipment. Background in Emergency Communications and/or Emergency Services preferred, but not required. Current NAED EMO certification preferred, but not required. Must be able obtain EMO certification within 90 days of employment.
